Default I like this set up...but what is the general opinion on..

having the cover for the air box open? Its on a 99 GSR and and to me it sounds more deeper and I liked it.

Unlike some exhausts , there is no change in the sound when you are under 3000 rpm or driving at regular freeway speeds (65, 70 mph). Only when you step on the gas the sound changes ( Not ear deafening sound but a little deeper than the stock) and you "feel" the car fast!!!!

Any comments or opinion on the above...any negative effects? btw the search for "open air " did not return anything useful. May be I will drop a K&N filter inplace of the stock one ( RU2820??) so that I get some performance gains also!!!!

Thanks

Your filter may get dirtier a little quicker and suck up a little warm air. I did it when I first got my GSR because it sounds hella nice in VTEC. It's pretty much a short ram intake minus a good flowing tube and a good filter.

I'd leave it on.

Apart from the filter getting dirty a little quicker, any other negative effects?

Sucking in hot air, that right there would stop me from doing it, you can't make as much power with warm air.

Get the K&n drop in filter. There was just a thread kind of about it.

Well, short rams get air from the same source and there are plenty of people here on h-t that run short rams. The only thing, if anything, that would hold me back is the stock restrictive filter. This is the kind of thing you do once you buy your car and plan on getting a CAI\short ram within a week or two. I wouldn't consider doing this for the long run.
