Default VTEC Solonoid bad? Vtec engages, then dis-engages, the engages...

What's up guys. My JDM R has a vtec crossover at 6000rpms, last week at the track, I noticed a very small hesitation while at full throttle between 6k and 9k.

Last night, my vtec would sometimes engage at 6k....sometimes it would engage at 7-8k...and sometime it would engage at 6k, dis-engage, and then re-engage at 8k. It is very noticable now.

Is this just the solonoid going bad? I have no vtec controller so it may be the ecu...but I doubt that.

Thanks for your help!

just a thought, but u might want to go to honda and buy a gasket kit for it and rebuild it. it might just be a dirty vtec solenoid and need new gaskets.

Hmm.. perhaps you should check your oil level. when the oil pressure isn't high enough, VTEC won't engage. I've had this happen when I was really low on oil. Just a thought..

are u noticing any other problems other than the inconsistent vtec engagement? remember that several other ancilliary devices must be working as well for vtec to engage

everything else seems to be running fine. thanks for the help guys...

Do the solonoids go bad all at once, or do they "wear" out?

I would say it's an oil pressure issue
