Default compression test result ... not good

Alright well i bought my ITR this past summer and ever since i got it i have had to get the tranny and clutch replaced by acura, under warrenty thank god. Even after that the car didn't seem to have the amount of power it should have. The car also burns about a quart of oil every 1,000 miles and that isn't even driving it hard. I have been keeping a log of this oil consuption for about 3 to 4 months now. I just did a compression test and this is the result i got from going let to right looking at the engine.

Cylinder #1: 225psi
#2 225psi
#3 the average after 5 tests was 190psi, lowest was 175 highest 210,
#4 225psi

the car has 56k on her, i guess this explains the oil lost huh? Thank god i bought the extended warrenty.

How much was the extended warranty?

My car has 3 months left and I'm not sure if I should extend or not. Worked well for you. I probably pass since the car only has 14K and was driven by a 45 year old who had every possible service done.

I personally would not touch an extended warranty.. I took my car in 4 times and not once was my warranty used. Big waste of money if you ask me.

I have learned that I can fix most warrantable things myself. I now have 92,000 miles on my 01 ITR and zero problems after my 60k rebuild.

i personally like the extended warrenty. it was 1,500 dollars and it has already paied for itself with the new tranny they installed. The reason i got it is because i am in college and i don't really want to have to pay for anything to expensive until i graduate and i get a nice job.

on the cylinder with the low reading. dump a teaspoon of oil into the cylinder and try the test a couple more times if the readings are higher then you piston rings are no good. if its the same you may want to have it checked for warpage or bad head gasket, etc.

The numbers you post indicate a healthy motor. In conjunction to the "wet test" suggested by Syner-G you can also tell if the rings are going by checking how quickly your oil gets dirty. The oil becoming dirty quick indicates an excessive amount of blow-by which is caused by the bad rings. If you oil stays clean, then it could be your valve seals. Did you also try a leakdown test as well?

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by Syner-G-Racing &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">on the cylinder with the low reading. dump a teaspoon of oil into the cylinder and try the test a couple more times if the readings are higher then you piston rings are no good. </TD></TR></TABLE>

Numbers will go up on ANY cylinder you dump oil into.

yeah, trying a valve adjustment first.

I gained 15 psi in one cylinder before, and the valvetrain wasn't too far out of spec
