just picked my first bike and now it wont start
hey guys just sold my motor from my civic and picked my first bike a 98 f3 w/ 416 miles on it . Anyways the bike started right up when I first got it home , The next morning I went to go for a ride and now it just cranks and backfires , im thinking no spark. Only prblem is my only experience are doing motorswaps and clutches on civics and integras . Ive never really played w/ a 2 wheel honda and i dont have to much experience w/ carburetors yet .I would assume i gotta pulll the plugs and start there but how do i get to them thanx >>>evan
You gotta pull the fairings, seat, and gas tank. Spark plugs sit under the tank. Yes check the plugs. Also check the carbs to see if they are leaking. Changing the fuel filter might not be such a bad idea either.

Thats what im saying. Thats almost impossible. Anyway. Also make sure that no fuel lines are being pinched, or that you are not running off an empty reserve tank or even have the fuel switch off. Also make sure you got the choke on.

a 6 year old bike with less than 500miles on it. thats wierd. that means that thing sat unused for most of its life :-/ thats harder on it than riding it and maintaining it properly. if its backfiring then there is at least some spark. and yeah, i am thinking the carbs are messed up if they sat that long with gas in them. ugh.
you need a service manual, the right tools, and some patience to go thru this thing and make sure its ok before riding it.

I think draining the fuel from the gas tank and draining the fuel from the carbs and starting clean would be a good idea.

make sure you clean your carbs too... nut jsut drain the gas.. but literally get in there with some solvent and a toothbrush and clean the thing...
overtime when gas sits in an area it gets gummy...this is not good...clean clean clean!

my bike did this before. it was because my plugs werent pushed in all the way. i dont think you even have to remove plastic to push em in...
