Default Clutch / Tranny noise....

I have a 99 Hatch with a D16y7. Whenever my car is at idle with the clutch out there is a "rattle" that comes from where the tranny bolts to the block. But, when I push the clutch pedal in the rattle goes away.
Anybody know what could be causing this??

thanks
chris

If it goes away instantly when you put a little pressure on the clutch pedal, it's a bad throw-out bearing.

If it's a tranny input shaft bearing, you'd have to press the pedal all the way down, & wait a second or 2 for the shaft to coast to a stop.

its the throw-out bearing then. it goes away about half way down on the clutch pedal.
how long can i get away without replacing this??

im going to be taking my car on a trip (300 miles roundtrip) this weekend. is there any chance that my clutch will take a **** on me and i'll be stuck??

thanks
chris

i just fixed my tranny; and it had similar situation as yours. After we drop the tranny; it wasn't the bearing. It was the clutch release rod, it was broken in half.

How far is the trip going to be?

the trip is 300 miles round trip. im thinking the trip wont be to hard on it because its mostly highway driving, you know what i mean??

what are the chances of my car breaking down because of this?? the noise is not very loud, its only audible in a garage really.

thanks

Hey man, i want you to be safe, but most likely its just a throwout bearing. This is a rather new car and id be suprised if it was something other then the bearing. If you have a stock clutch with springs, its possible one of ur springs may be loose and sticking out half way or something(highly unlikely). Back to your question though, i think youd be fine on your road trip and your cars not going to break down if the bearing is just now getting bad, just not gonna be as smooth

dude you dont need a whole new clutch, all you need is a throw out bearing. it deosnt affect any performance it just has a noise. I personally wouldnt change it untill you change the clutch, and if you do change it now just replace the throw out bearing its 10 dollars or so
