why do people put MY besides the year of there S2000?

It's not just online forums or unique to cars. Model year does not equal a calendar year, so it is very common to be explicit. For example:
FY04 = Fiscal year 2004
CY04 = Calendar year 2004
and of course, MY04 = Model year 2004
FY04 = Fiscal year 2004
CY04 = Calendar year 2004
and of course, MY04 = Model year 2004
