Default which route to go?

I have a 92 ls with almost 170,000 on it. It still runs good and strong with the exception with a slight ticking noise from the engine which i believe is loose valves. I need to get those adjusted. Anyways, I am planning on peicing together a turbo kit in the near future, but before that, i was wondering if I should get a new/used b18a or rebuild the engine...new rods, pistons...ect. Also, which would cost more? Im pretty sure that rebuilding the engine would cost more, but i just wanted to be sure, and if anyone knows a way that it wouldnt cost more, let me know. Any advice or opinions would be great, thanks.

Rebuilding is probably going to be better than installing another B18, because you don't know the history of the motor. I think a Drag kit would make the car extremely fun to drive, and you don't need a rebuild, but it is always added insurance. Search around for ideas on rebuilds and what components work for turbo LS's. Good luck.

doing a compression test will give you a better idea of how suitable the engine will be for turbo applications
