Couldn't find the answer
I'm looking at buying a 5th gen hatchback, probably 92 and swapping a B18b ls engine into it. My reason for doing this is that it has lower compression and I hear it is harder to tune a vtec engine for a turbo setup. Is that correct? Oh, it's cheaper also and the tranny has longer gearing.
With that in mind I am looking at the rev hard turbo kit and running on stock internals...if possible. I want to make 300whp and want to keep it as a daily driver. Is it pobbile to run stock internals and keep it reliable? Sleeving it I don't think is necessary since I shouldn't have to run over 10psi?? Also, I don't believe that rods would be necessary either since the ls isn't a hi-reving engine.
I would appreciate any feedback. I'm not new to turbos since I have a 1.8t GTI right now, but I am new to turbo hondas. Any info would help.
Thanks

Re: Couldn't find the answer (Tropicana18T)
B18b is a good affordable engine to boost. I'm sure tuning takes longer when you have to take vtec into account, but most tuners can handle it no problem.
Longer gearing is not necessarly better, shorter is actually if you can put the power to the ground without losing traction.
You can do 300 hp, but I myself would opt for forged rods and pistons if you are going to be pushing that daily. 250whp I think is fine stock block everyday.
You can run over 10 psi on the stock block. Alot of how much boost you can run depends on the size of your turbo, not necessarly boost level.
Oh btw, turbo honda is going to blow away your GTI. Unless you have some serious mods.

Re: Couldn't find the answer (HXMan)
Thanks for the info. Do you have idea with the stock block take for boost safely? With rods/pistons?
The internals on my GTI are pretty stout and I've been putting 19psi at them for almost 2 years with no problem. It goes pretty well...14.2-.4 in the 1/4 but the civics are so much lighter and the parts are so much cheaper that it appeals to me. It's also nice that they are really easy to work on.
Can the ls tranny deal with that kind of power without any issues?
Thanks for the quick reply

...about the turbo, probably a T3/t4e. I believe that's the one that comes with the kit. Would that be over kill for 300whp? I've seen the T3/T4b also that isn't rated as high. Any opinions?
