Default vtec working?

I have a 1.6L vtec and my friends and i don't think that the vtec is working. Is it possible for the vtec to not work and if so how can you test it?

check your oil level. not enough oil will cause your vtec to not work.

VTEC.

Check your oil first.
Is it the SOHC or DOHC engine?

Chances are if you can't spell VTEC you probably cannot notice if it engages in a SOHC.
I am pretty sure that it works, unless you what?? noticed the 5hp decrease in the top half of your RPMS?

No, check your oil. Also is your car warmed up if it's not then the car will not engage vtec. and if your oil is low it will not kick over and ya shouldn't be reving high in that case anyways. also does your speedometer work if not that would cause it. on sohc vtec's (atleast civics) it's real hard to hear the change unless there is a short ram intake or cai.

it's gonna be hard to hear, so i say hook up a 'vetec' [vtec] light and see if it turns on. do a search on how to make a vtec light, not hard at all. good luck.

You have to have a certain amount of oil for VTEC to even engage. When I first had my car I couldn't tell when VTEC was engaging or not. I suggest getting a short ram or just take off your intake arm/box for a few minutes and listen for it. When I modified my air box so it sucked more air I could distinctly hear VTEC engaging.

I have a SOHC, and until I put my AEM CAI on, I couldn't hear it engage, no matter what I did. You can't really feel it kick on either, rather it's a system to help the car rev higher and breathe easier. If you're car pulls all the way to redline, than most likely it's engaging.

It's a SOHC, it's not as loud as the DOHC crossover. If you have a short ram you can hear it.. Could be low oil or bad solenoid. What year/model?

Changing your oil alot is not good also. Your motor needs to work up a certain amount of deposits and **** to work correctly also.

Make sure your oil is good and your VSS is also working and check if you have check engine light on cause your ECU you kinda go into a safe mode and not engage V-TEC.
