yesterday I took a vss to a friends house to test it in his 98 civic to see if it was was working because I couldnt get it to work in my car with my sir cluster. I took his out, then tested mine and it didnt work but thats not my problem.
When I went put his back in I put it in correctly plugged up the connector and reset the ecu. But for some reason his car is not getting a signal and is flashing a a check engine light. Anyone that might have any clue how to fix it let me know
The fuse is still good, the sensor is getting power and has a good ground. everything worked fine before but now it just wont work.
i figured id ask this in here b/c alot of you do cluster swaps involving electric vss'

i have them same problem
okay lets see i have an 88 hatch dx the ground went to the ground on the cluster power went to swich power cluster and vss went to the center clip which is B1 vss. but my speedo works i just cant figure out this splicing into pin b16 what color is it? because when i splice into b16 the code17 eventually comes on while i drive also if idont splice into pin b16 the speedo works fine but the NO VETEC. iam getting tierd of this can anyone help step by step.

you should have the signal wire spliced into the yellow/red wire in the back of your cluster. is that where yours is?
anyways... bump for my question if anyone has any help at all

yes it the center clip i think its b1 yes i have it their i follow it to the ecu and its not pin b16 its pin b18 where it finishes. but if i dont splice it works the speedo that is but NO VTEC AND THE CODE 17 POPS UP everytime i reset the ecu.
but i started to think maybe its a weak connection b/c i just wrap the wire together my friend said to take it out and solder the wire together for better connection

AHHH i finally figured it out, the positive pin on the vss connector was severely corroded, i cleaned it out b4 and it didnt work... but i tested the vss in a different car and it worked..
now after i decided to solder in a new 3P connector it works like a charm.
