starting problem w/ new b20vtec guys... heellllp!!
ok guys, i have an 89 hatch that used to have a stock b16 in it with a mugen chipped ecu, i had the motor for about 5 months and only put about 3000 miles on it. it ran great never had any probs. so 2 weeks ago i went for the b20vtec conversions. everything went great and i was up and running but i only have one problem.. when i go to start the car from sittin over night or for a certain period of time, (over an hour or two) the car fires right up then instantly dies. when i go to start her the 2nd time it fires right up and everything is fine. drives fine, no leaks or anything. and this problem has been clock work for 2 weeks and i cant figure it out. first start dies, second start perfect.. i have a new water pump, timing belt, plugs, plug wires, cap, rotor, and a new fuel filter. i thought it might have helped, but no dice. the one thing i havent changed yet is the pump wich i have a 255 walbro comin. i was highly recommended this pump with the new motor compared to my original stock one. do you think this could be the problem? any experiences like this or suggestions would be greatly greatly appreciated. if you need any more info from me to help out, let me know. thanks guys.
im gonna have to do some research and check into those things but no i havent changed them or anything... im running the mugen chipped pr3.(same one i had with the old motor) when i first start it, it fires up and doesnt hold at all. just dies. but yes.. when i first start it and i just blip the gas pedal itll stay runnin no prob. but without a little blip on first start up attempt, it wont stay alive. wont run till i crank it the 2nd x.

i thought at first i could live with it, but its ****** drivin me nuts, i need to figure out what the hell it is i know somebodies prolly had the same prob..
ok i posted this in the hybrid forum as well, i might have a solution but i gotta let my car sit for a couple hours and try it out. it was suggested i could have a fuel pressure problem. that maybe im bleeding fuel when the cars turned off, thus my car staring second time after sitting for a couple hours or overnight.. i dont have a gauge to check pressure drop right now but the dude told me how to find out if thats what it is. so ill keep this updated. thanks..
do you let the fuel pump prime when you first start it in the morn.
Turn the key to ON until the fuel pump stops makin noise. then try to start it.

thats exactly what the guy suggested i do and it fired up and sputtered like it was gonna die a little but it held without me givin it gas! so im guessin there is something wrong with the fuel system? or do you always have to let it sit in the on position for a bit?, doesnt seem so, cause ive never done that before. but not only is it in the mornings that the problem occurs but just after the car sits for an hour and a half or so without runnin. so where do i stand guys?? what do i gotta fix..
narrowing it down...what causes the fpr to bleed pressure back to the tank? cause im thinkin it could be this. faulty fpr? time for a new one..?
with the fuel pump you have you should get an aftermarket fuel presure regualtor other wise you'll have problems with the presure.
well i havent gotten the walbro pump delivered yet so its the stock pump thats in there right now, do you think from having the stock pump originaly on the car, then the b16, now on the b20/vtec had wasted it? oh well its gettin changed anyhow.. thanks for your input though for sure
