Default how do you know your DISTRIBUTOR is going out or is it my MSD 6al?

I have a 1993 accord auto
MSD 6al
blaster2 coil
magnacore wires
mds cap

Well it started after I took a 500mile (6hour trip to Iowa & back from MN). On the way back I was going like 90-95mph all the way and the RPM was at constantly 3800-4200rpm.....

2 days later after I get home the car is giving me some issues.

what happens is that durin daily driving (wifes car) the tach needle will bounc up and down....
Sometimes just by about 500rpm differnce and at other times it's like 1,000 to 1,500 RPM flucation.

My question is:
1) how do i know it's my dizzy
2) how do i know if it's just my MSD distributor cap
3) could it even be my MSD 6al?

I have had the MSD on my accord for the past 2.5 years w/out any problems.
Right now the car starts and drives but the RPM bounces and it sometimes even BUCKS or stalls.... AGIAN my accord is auto..

PLEASE help me out....

how do you know WHAT needs to be replaced?

I did search..... and it could be anything from ignitor, cap, ect...

I took the cap off... is the rotor supose to spin freely, spin at all or not spin unless it's cranked?

If I am able to start the car ALL the time w/out any problem..... does that rule out that I don't need a new IGNITOR and it's just all dude to the messed up CAP & ROTOR?

yeah I hope it's just that. Before I took the trip the RPM tach jumping sysmtoms only happened like once a month by only (100-200rpm increments) now after the trip it happeneds all the damn time.

I went down to Iowa from MN (510miles) and drove baiscally non stop at about 90 to 95mph and it was very consistant for about 6 HOURS!!! the motor was like a 4,000RPM for 4hours of the trip ........ So my only logical thinking is that I burnt it out....

what happens if I keep driving very minimally?... can I permantely damage anything?

if its jumping, i would check out your iav or your fiav or map sensor first. I dont know if the msd will acutally make the rpm jump. Try taking out the iavs and cleaning them. Also, is there a check engine light? you might be thinking of a solution but it might be something else

well no CEL at all.
where is the iav or fiav located?
the TACH jumps up and down but does not effect performance... only sometimes.

Hmm...check on your cap and see if there are burn spots on it. My car does this a little bit when it's cold, but it's because of my E-Manage. I hate to say it, but one way to find out would be to remove the MSD box (just one more thing that could be broken) and see if it still does it. I know nothign about the MSD ignitions because I don't have one.

Best of luck man! You are having some pretty crappy luck as of late.

i've seen the same symptoms on my LS too.. when i rev it above 5k.. the needle will go crazy.. also, on really cold winter mornings, my engine will suddenly die on me and i won't be able to start it for a couple minutes even after cranking it over and over..

i did have a chance to swap out the rotor w/ another used one and my irradic idle temporarly went away, but came back a few days later... since the LS motor is just my backup pooper motor, i'm not too concerned..
