No you cant bar it, yes they will take the whole car (you may get lucky, because they could charge you with recieving/possesion of stolen property)...no you ant get your money back. IMO it's a bad deal gone wrong in every way.
Esp if you know it's stolen, you have no rite to get your money back or the engine...Thats the price you pay for supporting thiefs.

A local shop offered me a b18c swap installed for $2,000. too good to be true.? yep

Call the cops on the guy, you might not have ur engine now... but in the future if u get caught with that thing, you won't have ur whole car.

Even though none of their stuff was hot, its what will happen. They WILL take your car.

the only real way to find a good legit motor is to take it to the chp, if it is in fact stolen they will keep it for you. good deal huh.

and they will not be the judge of who stole what, u have stolen property and thats that. you will probably get impounded and have to pay for a certified mechanic to take the motor out.

Don't they have like serial numbers or something on engines? So you can look up in a database to see if its hot or not?

If you carfax the VIN number i bet they could trace you, to maybe having it. If the car is stolen then it is reported to carfax they might watch people who ask for that VIN number and they can trace ur IP address to you. If i were you i would grind that number down baby! j/k but i would seriously contact the authority.

Hot swaps, a very touchy subject for me and some friends.

The motor that is in my car is in fact hot, and when I bought the car off a friend I knew it was. Unfortunately for him, when he bought the motor off a local guy, he didn't have a clue it was hot. Put the car in Wheels N Deals and the same day a detective showed up to his house, asked him a bunch of questions, and then impounded his car.

Amazingly, he paid the impound fine and they gave the car back to him and he sold it to me. Appearently everything is ok now, and accoriding to him they are supposed to be making documents that certify the motor to be in my car. I'll let you know when I actually get them.

Other than that, I don't know what to tell you. My friend had to learn the hard way I guess.

Okay cool keep me updated...

Btw, what I mean is that you don't know if the motor was hot or not. You just bought it off some guy local to you and he said he lost the paperwork for the motor. Btw, are we talking about JDM motors here or USDM???? Either way both still same situation right????? But JDM motor can get away with it and USDM can't???? What I mean is that if its a hot jdm motor the state ref won't know will they????? Cuz its imported motor from japan... Well, does cop give a damn about hot JDM motor???? Or they only care about the USDM one that are hot??? How can you go about buyin a motor local to you???

The ref will know if the engine is jdm or usdm because of the engine code stamped on the block...

i.e.
92-96 H22A1 USDM
97-01 H22A4 USDM
92-01 H22A JDM

jdm motors are still registerable and reportable as a stolen motor, in fact anything is traceable with a serial number. my car has a jdm motor and i have the Serials written down and i have photos of the stamp. if anything bad happens you know im gonna report those numbers.
