plans for the y8 turbo beast
alright guys, this summer I'm planning on building my car into a turbo beast. its a 98 civic ex, and I'm aiming for 250 whp. I plan on going with a greddy kit for the z6 with hondata, 450cc dsm injectors and possibly a new fuel pump, which will be decided as I start aquiring the parts from the building. I'm getting the 5" intercooler from johnnyracecar.com. I also plan on using LS connecting rods if i can find a good deal. otherwise I'd just use an aftermarket rod specifically for my application so I dont have to deal with a machine shop. I'll be using a forged low compression piston. now I haven't decided on which piston set I'm going to use, so here are some questions I'm having.
1) someone recommend me some piston sets
2)do LS connecting rods need to be notched for my d16y8.
3)someone recommend me some after market rods if you think the ls ones stink.
4)is 250 whp reasonable? keep in mind this is my daily driver. it has almost 120k miles so I want this to be safe.
5) someone recommend a good aftermarket clutch that wont make my leg ache in rush hour traffic.
thanks guys
ps. the only thing I want the shop to be doing is the tuning, so I plan to do the entire install in my driveway one week. so feel free to leave some CONSTRUCTIVE, MATURE words of wisdom.
wrong forum buddy... copy and paste it into a post in the forced induction forum.. and then delete everything in this post using the "EDIT" option... and if you want. just give a link to the FI post
Id go with a aftermarket rod over the LS. it will cost about the same. Getting the LS rods modified to fit a single cam as well as shot peening them apr rod bolts. may cost more than a set of eagle rods. so id just stick with a set of eagle rods

but it's still an EG Civic.
To answer the questions I would recommend an SRP piston and Eagle Rod set. 250whp is reasonable on a daily driver.

do the eagle rods require any notching? also, I'm planning on buying an extra short block to do all the work on that way the car will still be running until the install. when i get this short block, am I going to need to use new valves and springs? I've also heard that if i do use the new valves and springs, i can use stock retainers, depending on the brand of valves. I'm not planning on revving to 9g's or boosting to 16 psi or something crazy like that. thanks for the help guys.
Definately upgrade your fuel pump. I have a Walbro 190lph and I love it. Pretty damn noisy, but can flow enough to run my 10psi at the track. Your puny fuel pump (79lph) won't be able to do it. I promise.
