N/A d16y8 build
Alright so i know the D-series sucks. Im just trying to put a but more power in my daily. Im basicly doing a rebuild because i want to use oem parts.
So for now i will be getting a hondata chip so i can put a B-series in my car lster. For now just want to put a1 or a6 pistons, ive read online you can go up to 10:1 to 12.5:1 cr with those pistons. The only problem im having with rightnow is deciding what rods would work best. I know the y8 rods are toothpicks and dont hold up alot of power, i know you can but LS rods but why do i want to pay for machine work to keep it stock.
So i just wanted to know what rods would be safe to run. I saw a forum where the a1 rods are bigger than y8 rods but are made of weaker material and wont hold up as well.
If its best to just get a6 pistons with ls rods ill probably just boost it and try to get around 300hp. But like i said its a daily i just need a rebuild but i want some power gain from the engine aswell.
Thanks

Re: N/A d16y8 build
Ive been doing the same research recently and made a list for a D-Series build
You can get some H beam Rods for about $300 and Pistons/rings for around $150 from Nippon Racing. About $130 for ARP head studs and $60-$100 for new bearings. Maybe $40-60 for thicker head gasket. With this setup the D16Y8 can handle much more horepower and could handle a conservative amount of boost without having head lift. Check out prixes online for forged pistons and rods to beef up the low end of your engine.
