How bad of an idea, or is it worth it to change to obd1? more details inside...
I have an obdII delsol s which has the D16y7, It currently has the standard I/H/E with no Cat (It's been no cat for a while, and isn't changing no problems with smog)
I have a D16z6 in my garage which will either be used for a complete swap or just a mini-me...undecided as of yet, either way it won't make it into the car anytime soon.... I also have a p28 (and a chip for it - not installed yet) The 2nd O2 is plugged in and just floating in the engine bay to keep from throwing a CEL, It runs a little rich, and bogs when really cold (after 3-5 mins of warming up it's OK)
is there any point of doing the obd conversion early, and will it affect the D16y7 poorly, or at all? I just don't want to switch if there is no point, or is bad for the motor considering the ecu is for a SOHC vtec, and it won't be a vtec motor....
any help please?

You can leave it obd2 put the whole z6 in there and just use your y7 manifolds with coresponding sensors if you wanted to.
why pull an entire motor when us b series guys simply buy an obd2 to obd1 harness(check sponsor's marketplace $75+) and an obd1 ecu($95+). that's all you need to do.

eventually the z6 will make it's way into the sol, however that's not going to be for a while, the bottom half of the z6 has issues, there is what sounded like a bearing noise coming from the bottom half according to the mechanic that gave me the motor, yes gave as in freebie and from what I understand the Intake manifold from the z6 is superior to the one from the Y7, and I actually have two complete manifolds, fuel rails, injectors, and throttle bodies from z6's..... and if I leave the current ecu in there, then there won't be anything to activate the vtec, and there will still be a second O2 sensor floating in mid air in the engine bay

I have a P28 Ecu as well as an OBDII to OBDI harness....
so the question remains, is it worth it to change the ecu, before changing the motor, considering the only problem now is that the 2nd O2 sensor is not installed in the exhaust and therefore not really doing it's job and affecting how the car is currently running

I'm pretty sure someone here knows the answers.....
what kind of preils are there to run a non-vtec motor on a vtec ecu, is the air/fuel ratio gonna be wrong, since vtec will never turn on? will it jsut give me check engine lights?
afternoon bump
