whats the simplest way to drain the gas tank on del sol
my car has been sitting for like 7 months and want to drain all the gas out of it is there a EASY way so to speak thanks for any input you have
You should have a drain plug on the tank. Not sure where it is on the del sol though. If you get up under the rear of your car, you should be able to locate it. The tank is held under your frame under the back seat by two straps and down there where the straps are you should see the drain.
disconnect the incoming hose to your fuel filter and turn on your ignition this will make the fuel pump drain all the fuel in the car then simply replace the line and reclamp it

Ding!
I'd hate to use that drain plug with a full tank of gas.
7 months though, your gas should be fine unless it's been exposed to undue moisture.

Hell no! Way more work than needed

When the car was sitting did it have a full tank? The gas in it should be fine but if you didn't leave it with a full tank then moisture would build and rust/corrode the inside.

This way sounds extremly dangerous. You have power in the car (battery) and like a foot away, tons of fuel. Kinda a bad combo. Do it the safe way. Do the drain plug. I would even take the battery out to do this.

go to a dealer and ask them theyll tell you the same thing. I would know i work at one and its not that hard to point a freakin hose

no it has less than half a tank when it was parked i just heard lots of bad things about gas just sitting for extended periods
I have the same problem, the del sol sat for over a year with a full tank of gas. It started this jerking problem, so I replaced the fuel filter and put gas in it and it fixed my problem. But now it's doing it again, so I think the drain plug sounds like a good idea. If I find it, I'll let you know where it's located.
Auto gas loses about 1 octane point a month. I picked up that piece of trivia from a General Motors engineer.
Presumably you have 10% ethanol in the tank. If the tank was less than full you will have water contamination to some degree. Ethanol will actually hold a fair amount of water in suspension. When there is more water than the ethanol can bind with, then you get globules of water rolling around the bottom of the tank.
Take the time to get it all out.

First, holy 11 yr old necro!
B: my dads tank sat for about 4 yrs with 10%E in it. About 5 gallons worth. 2 yrs into it we put Stabil in, and then siphoned it out one gal at a time thru the top of the tank and used it in other cars with full tanks.
The good news was it didn't rust the tank, so thats something, and it did have some puddles of water under the gas that I siphoned out separately.
So, you should be ok if you get it out ASAP.. and throw in some Stabil afterwards in case you didn't get it all.
