GM Synchromesh Friction Modified no longer available in Canada?
This is great...I tried to order some of the fluid through a local GM dealer and the rep told me that GM Canada has discontinued it!
As far as I know, there is like 1 bottle left in the area (London, Ontario).
Will I achieve the same results if I use the regular (synthetic?) synchromesh with the friction modifier?
Also, if someone has some for sale, please let me know.
Thanks for the help.
Eric

From what I have seen, the GM syncomesh friction modified is actually made by pennzoil... i have seen bottles of the pennzoil badged stuff.. maybe trying looking for that?
My 2-3 synchros are going bad, and I need to thicken it up to try to alleviate the pains.
I may just try adding some friction modifier to the stock Honda fluid and see what happens. If I don't get good results, I'll just change the oil again.

The Regular Synchromesh stuff is made by Penzoil, the Friction Modified can only be found at the dealer.
But be forwarned, the friction Modified fluid is intended for the Rear LSD Differentials of the ZO6 , and Viper .....it is NOT for the transmission ....
GM Synchromesh Modified does not come in the ZO6 or Viper transmission, they use Dexron III Automatic Transmission Fluid .....

Oh really? Care to explain why?

hmm been using Friction Modified Synchromesh since October (10K+ miles so far) and my tranny still shifts like butta.... sooo smooth, even with my very short throw shifter, and 160K miles on the tranny.

Go to another dealer, i highly doubt they discontinued it> if your in canada you can still buy it at candian tire.
My suggestion, dont even get the syncromesh. Its crap, it got all ntchy on me in 1000kms so i swapped in the Redline MT-90(only $1 more per litre) and has been great so far(4000kms now).

Because Synchros need a certain amount of friction to work properly, a full synthetic fluid will cause them to slip ...
slipping = heat
heat = death of a transmission

Redline MTL contains friction additives for just that reason.

haha I just did a Yahoo! search for GM Synchromesh and this thread came up.
I have been using GM SM FM for well over 100K miles now and my transmission still shifts flawlessly, with all original internals and over 260K total miles on it.
And according to AC Delco, GM SM FM is in fact used in some transmissions and transaxles. It's not just a rear differential lubricant. Besides, a differantial doesn't have any synchromesh gears anyway.
