so my engine blew up last night...
this is the 3rd.
1 - a6
2 - sohc zc's
im starting to get really discouraged with these sohc's, anyone else have tons of problems with them? first engine spun a bearing on the turnpike, second engine blew all the ringlands (in 15min) when it was turbo, the pistons looked like they were previously cracked, before the turbo and second engine blew a headgasket 2 weeks after i got it and after i fixed that, it spun a bearing and sent a piston or rod or both, through the front of my block on the turnpike again.
with all the extra sohc parts...should i build one? or start looking for a dohc zc w/ a warranty.
this is starting to get expencive

1.) Stay off the Turnpike.
2.) My d15b2 has been very good to me. Ive blown up one but that was stock with DPFI, and i always ran the **** out of it. The motor i have now has d15b2 block, with all Si internals and head. JG Cam, header, blah blah blah and im very surprised that it has lasted this long and i can rev it up to 8,000rpm. If you can find a ZC for a good price and a warranty, kudos. Id trust DOHC over SOHC anyday, ZC's are also very reliable and powerful motors.

well why did you blow your boosted motor? too rich or too lean?
do you know what your doing with your current FI sutup or where you just messing around?

car wasnt turbo last night. i have no idea what happened with the turbo engine. i didnt get any time to tune it. it blew up after i fixed an oil leak from the return line. the engine that blew a headgasket and unleashed the rod last night only had...nothing done to it. it had/has arp head studs and a cometic headgasket with a chip for the sohc zc. i was planning to turbo it after i rebuild my turbo...
think revving too high could have caused a bearing to spin? i was really ripping up on it 2 weekends ago. the new chip i put a 7400 rev limit on it, i didnt take it up that high, but i was redlining it a lot around 7000 or 7200. after that it started to make the noise, but i could only hear it in the head, not the block...sounded like valve noise (rattle), so i adjusted them and then it made more noise. after that i could feel it in the pedal. since it was such a new engine i didnt think to check the bottem end or think anything serious was wrong with it.
i call it unlucky.
don't want to go b series. i'm rt4wd.
i like the sohc so i'd rather build something up, but i should probably get an engine in it pretty fast...so maybe a dohc zc would be the way to go.
CivicHatchSOHC: do you know any good places in MD to get an engine? This one i got from some hindo guy near baltimore. dont want to get another one from him.

mid atlantic motorsports in baltimore sells motors I believe. It is like 2 miles from my house. Theyve been around for a while and are pretty reputable around here.
Dont put a turbo on a car that isn't in 100% physical working order, you should compression test and tune up your car before putting on a device that is going to cause much more stress on the engine. Just common sense.
D series bible quotes:
1. "dont overrev a stock d series"
2. "If you are swapping in a used D series...re-build that *****!!"
I think if you live by those two rules you really cant go wrong. Ive had a couple blow, but for stupid reasons that I could have prevented by just opening it up first and replacing the consumable parts.

PM me, I live nearby and have a y7 sitting in my garage. Not sure weather it would do you any good seeing that it came out of an obd2 car but i'll sell it to you for cheap.
If I had the money I would love to get some forged internals for my ZC.
I work for Toyota and I would consider Toyota and Honda the 2 most reliable vehicles you can get. Honda is reliable because their standards for building are so advance and the engines are incredibly well designed. Toyotas are more simple engines that are basically overbuilt. Most of them even the passenger car engines have forged internals in them and engines like the Camry V6 has 6 bolt main caps. That is seriously heavy duty stuff.
So throw in some heavy duty stuff into your Honda engine and you are good to go forever.

My old D-Series ran like a champ, but then it was basically stock. I beat the hell out of my B-series now, but again it only has the requisite bolt-ons for mods.
i think u just have had a case of bad luck with the D's i love mine and its a pretty powerful motor and so far knock on wood i havent had a problem. dont loose ur faith with the D
time to do another D series and do it right
heres an example of me and my current engine #5
