i had the same prob, i just used a really big crescent wrench, tightened it down, and i actually had to use a breaker bar on top of that...then it came off, when you put it on just put it on hand tight so you wont have a problem next time

next time use a band type oil filter wrench, and a pipe on the end if you need more leverage. NEVER use a screwdriver, if its that tight you'll end up just twisting the filter open and of course you know where drips out onto already

Get a fram filter with the grip on it. And like he said just put it on hand tight. The heat will create a good seal.

we did try to use oil a filter wrench the size that is on there is to big for the cap and the driver was the last resort. he did buy a fram filter though. this is the first oil change since he bought the car 3 weeks ago. trust me he has learned his lesson this time.

Make sure you were loosening it, not tightening it. My brother once wanted to help me change the oil on my crx and he was fighting with it for over half an hour, even stripped the grooves where the filter wrench would go on.

I decided to give it a shot and he was like "your turning it the wrong way" I almost killed him. He was tightening the **** for over an hour. It was a loooong night, a friend of mine had to come over and stab the oil filter with a screwdriver fight with it for a while and finally took it off.

Man, you used PLIERS to install an oil filter?? put some oil on the gasket spin the filter on snug and add one full turn, it won't leak and it will come back off when you want it to.

Fram oil filters suck, soem guy tore apart tons of different brands, and fram was one of the worst, the if your gonna get one other than oem honda, which now started using fram, so tehy suck too, get a puralator, there up there in quality, the frams just plain suck. THey used to be good, but they went to a cheaper contruction method, making them more money.

yea that cheap filter is made by a company called honda. when i put on my oil filter i wait till the seal touches the engine and the 1/4 turn after that. comes off every time.

I've always used Fram filters with the grip on the end. It's worth the extra buck or whatever.

I use the Fram Xguard filters, they're pretty expensive, whats the difference between a regular fram and an Xguard?

I guess it almost happens to everyone it happend to me once, but I learned to just do it hand tight. Now I have been doing it hand tight for 3 years with no problem. Once you learn how to do it you dont have to buy the crappy Fram filters.

This is what you do when you cant get it off. If its a factory filter (and therefore round) a band type wrench is going to slip if its super tight. So instead, Stab a long skewer (or screwdriver) all the way though the oil filter (not just puncturing it, but go from the side and puncture both sides), then grab hold of both ends and crank. Righty Tighty, Lefty Loosey.
