Default Transmission problem...1998 SH.

I own a 1998 SH which has around 63k miles on it. I've had it since about July, and the transmission has been quite rough ever since I got it, but it was nothing unbearable..just an inconvienance.

But earlier tonight, I was trying to pull out of my driveway and it refused to get into Reverse. I tried a few times, and gave up. I let myself roll down in neutral and drove around for a bit warming the car up. I then stopped and tried again. And it didnt budge again. I have constant 5th gear grinds, and now this!

Looks like i'm going to have to have someone take a look at it. Anyone have any idea what may be wrong? And where I should take it to?

Well, on my 97 SH with equal mileage, most of the time in the mornings or when i havent driven it in a while, i have to double clutch it in order for it to get into reverse. That meaning that i try to put it into reverse and it wont go in, i put it back in neutral, let out the clutch, push the clutch back in and then i can go into reverse no problem. Now i'm not sure if you've tried this or not, but it always works for me.

As for your 5th gear grinds, when was the last time you changed your tranny fluid?

Hope this helps.

Well I tried today, and it went in, but sometimes it's difficult to take it out of reverse..

Sigh..

Does anyone know how many quarts of transmission fluid you need to pour in after a full drain? (manual)

Most of the time it's gas compilations on the under-motor clutch. It happens alot of the car is in a cold space for long period of times, and if you haven't drove it in awhile. But your best bet is probably taking it to a car fixing place, they can usually pinpoint it rather quickly.

Possible bent shift fork for reverse. I had to get a new tranny for my SH.
