Default Reverse grind?

When I came out of class today I went to put my car into reverse and it would just seem like it was going in about half way and when I would start to take my foot off the clutch it would start to grind. It did that twice. I had to put my car in first gear, creep up a little in the spot and then put it into reverse before it really went into gear. I've noticed that sometimes it won't even go in at all it's almost like there is wall there blocking reverse until I put it into first, creep up a little and then it will go into reverse.

Is this a sign of my clutch going out or a problem with my reverse gear? If I'm correct reverse doesn't have a synchro right?

reverse isn't synchronized, so sometimes you just have to let the clutch out and push it back in to get it to line up--just to spin stuff around. happens to me all the time....wouldn't worry about it

Ok thanks. I'll try to pump the clutch a little next time.

if your car is still rolling a little bit, putting it in reverse will grind it. happend to me all the time. just make sure you are not moving before you put it in reverse.

Yes I think I'm going to make it a habbit of going into first before going into reverse from now on.

i go into 3rd, works fine for me. i dont think any reverse gears are synchronized, every car ive owned has been stick and they all did the same thing. it used to aggravate the hell out of me when i first started driving, then my dad showed me the trick.

Yes it annoys the hell out of me as well that is why I asked. I'm going to try the going into another gear before reverse thing since it seems to work for everyone else!

Yah, this is a common issue with Integra's. It's such a bitch having to pump the clutch whenever you want to go into reverse. Sometimes it doesn't happen, but it usually does.

Reverse =

I do this on my DA. It even says to do this in the owner's manual (go in a forward gear then reverse).

reverse gear is straight cut, not slanted like your other gears so it's harder to get in sometimes and also creates more noise (the high pitched noise you hear when backing up fast), it's normal, i just shift into 3rd or 4th then try again and it usually goes in.
