Default should I keep the gsr or get a h22

like the topic says I have a 97 gsr(which is running strong) but I want more power for cheaper than turbo and without making my car street illegal
I was thinking about a prelude swap and get if ref'd (I am not sure if h22 in a teg can be refreed). I want to get in to 13's without loosing reliablity and streetabilty.

my question is, Is it worth it to do the swap or is it easier to put some more money in my gsr (what mods can I do to the gsr to get it into low 14's or high 13's without loosing reliability)

I am not sure what refeed means. For how much your going to spend on doing a swap you could do a greddy turbo that IS street legal!

And according to laws in my state, it is illegal to swap an engine into a car that the car didn't originally have in it.

yeah don't be foolish.....keep your b18c1!!! Having a h22 isn't going to make your car faster!!! Your going to spin out and break axles left and right due to the fact that h22 is powerful!!! You can make you b18c1 to 2.0L.....Just stroke it and do some work!!! You'll kill H22 easy!!! Why do u think prelude is heavy?!

keep the B18c1 they are good motors. They have a pretty good aftermarket and the amount of money you'd pay for a the H22 motor and swap would be huge 5K+. Your better off building your motor for All motor or Turbo.

Lots of misinformation... there are custom axles that are decently priced for h22's into integras... You wont break custom axles... For traction, u'd need really sticky tires, lsd and suspension... I'd advise you work with what you have... H22's have some quirks and for the price of doing the swap right, u'll have your b18c doing so much better...

ALOT of misinformation.

How is it illegal?? I lived in WA my whole life. Never once did a cop impound a car because 'This motor didnt come with the car.'

Don't post about stuff you have no idea about. That just makes you look ignorant. H22 WILL make your car faster. GSR = 170hp, JDM H22 = 200... Do you want me to do the math for you? Traction is a problem but just get some nice tires and learn how to drive the H22 and you'll be fine.

My complete swap ran me under $3,500 for sure. Considering I sold my GS-R for $3,000, I only spent roughly $500 for 30 extra horses out the box.

keep the gsr. throw in some high CR pistons, some cams such as juns, upgrade valvetrain, your basic IHE. and that should start you off just fine.

i can't quote any sources off the top, but I'm pretty sure the laws just say that if you engine swap, it has to be as new (or newer) than the car that you're putting it into. LIke, you can't put a 98 h22a into a 2000 integra, but you can stick a 2001 h22a into that same integra. Can anyone verify this?

I'm not sure about where yall are from but here in CA smog laws say if its within a year its cool... so if you have a 98 GSR you can put any engine of a 97 or a 99 into it... im not %100 but im almost positive

What about mounts and axles? I think you should keep the b18c1 especially if yours is still running strong. If you get a swap you don't know the condition of the motor, unless your rebuilding it.

My vote would be boost your current motor. I think greddy kits are street legal and carbed?

Stay with the B18C1, thats just my opinion. Your probably look at atleast around 3 grand for a h22 swap. Save that and put it into a turbo kit or build up your block for an NA setup.

boosting takes the reliability away from my car

my whole reasoning for the h22 swap was, it was going to be almost free. after I sell my gsr motor and I am goin to get better than type r times without breaking bank or loosing reliability

any ways if I do go the boost way, what are some cheap and easy mods that I can do to make my car more reliable.

looks like you had your mind made up already. Just go for it, no replacement for displacement! Good luck

swap it then, just make sure you have credit cards or money saved to do it right.

After you swap, throw a 50 shot (H22 can handle more, but you seem worried about reliability) on there and have yourself a very quick (and streetable) street car.
