Default kumho r's vs falkin azenis

i was having a conversationwith a fellow autocrosser about tires and i was tellin him how i was gonna get a set of kumho r-compounds for the civic i'm building. he was saying that actually the falkin azenis make more grip. no one i've talked to on other boards seem to agree...does anyone?

This summer Vince Bly (known National level STS driver) co-drove my ITR for a few events. I have an ITR on Kumhos (at the time) in GS and he has a Prelude on Azenis in STS. When he got back in his car he said that it was difficult to get used to the lack of grip in the street tires. So... my guess is the Azenis produce noticeably less grip than the Kumhos.

Regards,
Alan

The Azenis have stiffer sidewalls than most street compound tires, but not nearly as sticky as a r-compound. I'm still in the process of trying to get my 215/45x16" Azenis to fit under my fenders I'll let you know this weekend what I think of them.

The Azenis would be a great novice tire for a stock class since they should last longer than the Kumho r-compounds, but not as long as the Kumho street tire.

I love to tell the story of the GS-R on Azeni's beating a Ferrari F355 on Hoosiers I guess autocross IS 95% driver

I have talked to someone that did a significant amount of testing that included GEEZ measurement. The Kuhmo, Victorracers were always faster and were capable of higher G loads than the Falkens. Period.

As said above... no way. Is it possible that the person you were speaking with misunderstood you, and thought you meant the Kumho street tires? In that case, I would be inclined to agree that the Azenis are stickier...

Just a thought,

Jon

This is absolutely true. I ran both of these tires this season. The Falkens produced higher G loads on the the GEEZ than the Kuhmo 712's. I like the feel of the Falkens much better as well.
