definitely in the oil pan.... first try with the magentic stick down the hole....if that doesn't work, drain your oil & try using a magnet on the outside of the oil pan in a sweeping motion towards the hole...you might be able to get the nut out the hole without taking the pan off...if neither of those work, just take the oil pan off & it will be right there

hahaha THAT WAS ME!! my nut fell onto the baffle plate thing. so draining your oil and stickin a magnet in it prob wont get it, unless your lucky. i had to take off my oil pan and pull off the baffle thing to get it (could of jus reached my hand in and picked it out, but i didnt know where it was)
BTW: if your an h22a4, its gonna be a pain in the *** to get ur oil pan off cus of all that hondabond (at least it was for me). they dont make regular gaksets for a4's u gotta use hondabond..

With the exception of an exhaust leak from a broken gasket, my engine is running perfectly, no ticking from LMA's sticking, and it purrs baby, yeah!!!!
One thing that scared me is that I found an extra valve adj nut in the oil pan
. So now I have one extra valve adj nut. and a new oil pan gasket. The old one was a bitch to get off, it was caked on there like nothing I've ever seen. Had to work on it for like an hour
But it's done and everything is good. Thanks for your guy's help.

Yeah, dropped the oil pan, replaced gasket, cleaned oil pan, sealed back up with hondabond, and presto, new oil pan gasket and a lost valve adj nut.

So true, only like 1 out of ten people post back results nowadays after trying out the board's suggestions. Always gotta follow through, in anything you do, or else you're just lazy and don't wanna make the effort [/endrant]

Well, you do have to remove the main crossmember down there, the one that goes underneath it by the header, and also the bottom portion of the header. Make sure to replace your oil pan gasket, and also make sure to remove your oil dipstick, I bent mine while dropping it
haha too bad i didnt find this post sooner. i never though to look to honda-tech in times of severe need.
the exact f*ing thing happened to me a week ago when i was doing a valve adjustment. guess im not the only clumsy one...no wait, maybe i am cuz i got oil in one of the cylinders haha heres the thread:

the nut fell in, and my heart skipped a beat. i felt around with a magnet and didnt get jack >>> i had to pull the oil pan. i was on a deadline with 6 hours left to go, so i pried that sucker off. helms and other manuals say you cant, but its not to terrible on h22s - the drivers side corner closest to the back of the car has a small tab that is recessed - a little bit away from the contact surface of the oil pan. after some horsing around trying to get it off, a call to a honda-tech buddy revealed that prying wouldn't do any damage (it will only damage when you actually pry the contact surface, which NEEDS to be perfect), and away i went with my prybar.
pulled the pan off, and voila - more magnet work in the baffle plate found that sucker no problem.
saturday late evening revealed that all of the honda parts places were closed, so my best friends of autozone ( i love autozone ) got a visit from me. they didnt have gaskets for a 2000 prelude. i nearly cried, but wait ((( lightbulb goes on ))) "Do you have a gasket for a 95 prelude vtec"? "Why yes, we do" haha
few hours later (with a perfectly fitting oil pan gasket, might i add) lude smokes 1.8t 20th anniversary gti, a modded base rsx, and a few older gti's while horsing around haha. thank you autozone!!!
