Do tuned cam gears increase power with stock cams?

yes and no. on a SOHC all it really does is move the powerband.
while you get the most out of them with tuning, you can noticeable gains if you understand how cam gears affect the power band.
example:
this dyno is of a SOHC VTEC with OEM ecu, i/e, ZEX 53900 cam, y8 IM, and adjustable gear. courtesy of moose.

blue curve= cam timing at 0
red curve= cam timing at +2
green curve= cam timing at -2
granted, this is on a ZEX 53900, but the same concept still applies to an OEM cam. you just won't see 5whp from it.

the same concept applies, only with DOHC you can alter overlap. there are a LOT more combinations available with DOHC, and only dyno tuning will really get you the best results.
i really wouldn't waste my money on them until you get aftermarket cams. You may be able to pull out a little bit of power, but you would have to dyno your car and everything.
