another suspension problem
alright i think its just me but every time i try and modify my car something has to go wrong. I got the front suspension done and i had just started on the driver side in the back. We were taking the large bolt off the bottom of the strut and the head snapped off. I'm guessing this bolt is rusted in there. We tried turning the nut on the other side but that didnt budge.... we tried pounding it out but that didnt move either....we started to drill it out but the bolt is so thick that it would have taken us hours to get through. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do? i'm trying to avoid going to a shop with it because they rape you hourly...especially on suspension....
Try some WD-40? Seems like you're in a pretty bad position. But if there is anyway you can grind off the weld on the other side? So you can pop the bolt out with a screwdriver? You can get the bolt from honda, and maybe you can find a nut from honda, or orchards.. my 02
try some PB blaster and let it soak liberally on it in a well ventilated area, if that doesn't work do what oh crap said and grind off the welded on bolt. then you can buy a new one like oh crap said from honda or get one from a junkyard.
ive uve got the means, u could try super-heating it......though then u might mess up the integrity of other welds.......just dont go to a shop, a buddy of mine borke off a bolt on his upper control arm and the shop he took it to charged him 500 for fixing it + finishing the instal......
my dad says that maybe if i take some of the pressure off the strut that i could try turning the nut on the end or pounding it out again and it might seem a little bit easier...if that doesnt work i might try getting a container around it and let swim in wd-40 over night and then see what will happen...hopefully i dont have this problem with the other side...

the nut on the other side is welded to the stock strut, so if you bought aftermarket struts it has the nut welded on there already, so cut the nut off the stock strut, pop the broken bolt out with screwdriver, go to honda and buy the bolt, and install new strut

BINGO!
we have a winner.
its gonna take a few cut-off wheels with a dremel not unless you have access to an air grinder because that is hardened steel.

I've taken a 3/8 breaker bar + socket and just ripped the ****** off once. Not easy, but a lot easier than trying to get a cut-off wheel in there. But yeah, both ways will work.
for the detructo guys

thats the problem i'm not replacing the struts...only the springs for now...i cant afford to pay my bills and purchase the struts right now...so i gotta save the strut...is easy out a method of removing that bolt???
Ok so if i went with the new strut what about the bushing that is still there...would i need a new one of those or would i be able to slavage that..??? And is it possible since i was going to in the near future replace the struts could i just buy tokico rear shocks...and then later on buy the fronts??
yeah, you could buy rear now and fronts later, and the bushing should stay in there cuz its not threaded for the bolt and the bolt should slide out of there after you cut off the nut
