Default B17 Rods and 12.5:1?

I have some weisco 12.5:1's that I want to put into a b17. I plan on replacing all the bearings/seals in the motor, and since the rods are OK I want to reuse them because this setup is only for this year.

What do you guys think about Weisco 12.5:1's mated to shotpeened stock b17 rods and some cams (itr or skunk2 stg2's)?

At what point should I be concerned about the rods?

Thanks,

-nate

My main question here is not what cams to use, but will I be ok using shotpeened stock rods?

you will be happy with the sk2 stage 2 cams, but why not buy a set of eagle rods for about $300.00.

Have you checked out Eagle's application list? I don't believe they make B17 rods. I think Crower is the only company that makes them.

I'm building a b18c for boost next year... I will definitely be buying b18c rods at that time, but right now I just want to put together a fun little setup for this year.

I'm just trying to find out if the stock shotpeened B17 rods will be ok. This motor will never see over 200whp, and never any boost or gas.

It's not the best idea to shotpeen used rods, it can cause stress on something that's already as hard as it is ever going to get with the exception of cryo. or nitrading...Most machine shops will tell you this, but do a little research and you'll find stock honda rods are good ****, and can usually handle up to about twice the original horsepower of the car...You should be fine with some new bearings and maybe some ARP rod bolts!
Skunk stage II's ...Got some with some CTR pistons (.025" overbore)...
LOVE EM!!!

They should hold up, but I agree that you should get some ARP rod bolts.

heard that the majot stress point is the rod bolts, so just replace them with ARP's and you should be set.

sorry to side track, but how are you getting 12.5 with a b17a? whats your piston-to-deck height? and piston dome size? thanks. im looking for the exact same C/R but couldnt find a forged piston that would ive me that C/R without have a 0 piston to deck height. dont want to deck the block more then necessary.

Thanks for the advice guys... I'll add upgraded bolts to my list.

gutted: I'm not 100% sure of the exact setup I'm going with, but I should know in a day or two... I emailed ImportBuilders and hopefully they can point me in the right direction regarding exactly what piston I need... I'll post up what I find out.
