Thanx in advance for lookin at my help post... I popped my hood the other day to put some more windshield washer fluid in and when i tried closing it it wouldnt lock down??... i started playing with it and found a bunch of "Gunk" by the hood-latch's and it was very hard to push down on the locking piece, i figured i would just try shutting my hood and pushing the piece that doesnt move over with a Screwdriver for a temporary solution but even that doesnt work... unless you are pushing Down on that piece it wont move which is kinda wierd considering the hood should be pushing down on it???
Anyone ever had a similiar problem???

Can you get the latch to engage by using your screw driver to simulat the hood latch?
If you can get the latch to engage around your screw driver then the latch is fine and probably just needs to be adjusted. There are 3 screws which hold it to the radiator support area and you will need to loosed these a bit so that you can adjust the height/depth of the latches position.
Now if the latch will not engage around a screw driver then it may just be sticking, in which case, I would spray some degreaser in there to try and loosen it up then lube it with some sort of spray lubricant. Just have someone pull the hood release over and over while your are spraying the degreaser in there to work it in real good then wash it out with a hose. Have someone pull the release again while you are lubing it too.

make sure that the pop lever in the car is pushed back. mine doesnt spring back every time and if it doesnt the hood wont latch.
Since your hoods poppeed look down on the right side of your latch, you will see your hood cable realease pry down on that cable as far as you can with out ripping it, you have now pulled you latch back and you hood will close. I have to do this at least once a day thats what we do at the honda dealership.

i work at a shop and it happens with about 5% of the cars that come in, you just got a play around with the cable that releases it (push it down and what not), and make sure the latch isnt stuck, also spray it out with some brake cleaner if its dirty

That's a good one, I didn't think about that. I had a similiar situation once where the cable came loose from the release lever in the cab and it kept the lever from goin back in all the way and was keeping the latch open.

If you need to just pull the pop lever again and then manually push it back in. That should do the trick if its the problem that I mentioned.
