ZC Tbelt tension
Quick background : About 2 weeks ago I got a fluctuating idle and hesitation until 2krpms, at the same time I had a slight rattle noise. It got progressively owrse over the next 2 days...found out my tbelt was loose, it was slapping the inside of the case, not sure on the idle thing or hesitation, possibly just slipping belt.
Replaced tensioner this past weekend and problems went away, rattle and idle/hesitation, great. Didnt replace spring, just tensioner and bolt, the old tensioner had not seized or anything either.
On the way home from work (3 days later) I heard the damn rattle again, along with the idle problem and hesitation. About 5 blocks from my house the cel came on and oil light. Shut car off immediately, pulled over and went right to the tbelt. Yup, loose as hell, a cam jumped a tooth thus throwing the cel. Got it home and retensioned the belt AGAIN (using helms of course) Upon startup it idles ok but whenever I give it gas and let off it slaps the damn cover....I figure the spring isnt giving me enough tension, so should I rig up a hook and pull up on the tensioner to take up the slack? I've read this isnt a good idea as you can overtighten it but a little tight shoudl certainly be better than too loose, esp with an oem belt since they can accept a little stretch. Any opinions?
