Hmm well where should I start,
ok, back In oct during my trip down the southern california one of my clutch springs came out and the clutch was toasted. I had it changed (oem) and a new main seal for the tranny (it was leaking), new throw out bearing, flywheel was resurfaced, the whole deal.
All was good on my 6 hour trip home, the shifting was superb, the $750 smile on my face was happy not to have to deal with this when I got home.
Now a few weeks later whenever I would let out the clutch from a stop I could hear a clank. yes a clank, it was very strange sounding almost as if the clutch was "slapping" onto the flywheel. I wasn't sure if this was normal, I didn't have the time to tear apart everything just to check for this noise. Being an idiot I just ignored it.
Now the clunk has gotten louder, and there is this grinding noise coming from my akle/ cv joint or either tire rod area. I'm almost 60% sure it's my akle.
Now back to the tranny, the main seal is still leaking (ugh) and so is my oil pan and maybe the front crank seal (if that's what it's called) I have some interesting pictures and a sound/movie clip of the clanking.

Thats near the crank area, looks like it's coming out fo there but the oil pan could be leaking on that I dunno
The oil pan, slight leak nothing major.

I believe thats the main seal they were referring to. Yep still leaking...
Another shot of the tranny...
Heres a sound that sounds SIMILAR to the clunking I hear when engaging the clutch (it doesn't always make a sound, forgot to add that)

(made this noise by slightly turning the tire (lifted off the ground) about a 1/4 of an inch both ways)
Should I just upgrade the akles? I would like to turbo this beast later, in about a month i'm putting in a quafie LSD so I plan to take a look at the clutch and rebuilding the syncros while the tranny is out.
opinions?

OK...
Hummm
As for the Front Main seal, yes thats a possibility thats its leaking- I see the pictures and I had oil PISSING right from the same area... It was my cam seals!
So I went ahead and did all at the time.
Replaced:
cam seals
timing & balancer belts.
Get the OEM Retainer clip for the front balancer shaft, its for the seal. like 3.00 part.
water pump.
front main seal...
Now by looking at the pictures I really dont think its you oil pan leaking! Due to the fact that someone honda-bonded the hell of it.LOL
Now you rear main seal... Ya Looks like It.. could be a number of things
Bad install
bad seal
Or you getting ready to spin a rod...Due to a the HI oil presure,. Could have blown out the oil seal...
Once again I have this happen to me... It was a bad Main Rear Seal!!! SO I WENT TO THE DEALER FOR THE next on... Thats the only thing I tried to cut the corners with!!!!
GO OEM ALL THE WAY!
My seal is fine now..
Also, If you plan on replacen you axels...Check the Oil seal for those..You could have a leak there too!!! For the shop work.. They could have damaged the seals???
No likely though... Bud I wouldn't rule it out though...

damn i didn't even think to check that cam seal. I had read awhile back that those leak once in awhile... damn it my project just keeps growing. O well I guess it's time to pick up my helms manual...
Can anyone point me in the right direction for a quality set of akles that could hold 300whp? I'm planning on boosting by next summer, I figure why not just replace it with the right stuff the first time??
EDIT: How come high oil pressure can cause me to spin a bearing (rod right?) Also i forgot to mention that the hondabond crap appears to be getting eaten. Kind of like when you drip dot3 brake fluid on plastic, it just eats it away. I'm going to take a look at those cam seals when I get home. If those are leaking i'll be a lot happier.
I might just add the timing belt to my project too, the previous owner said he "changed it" but when he pointed to the "timing belt" he was aiming at the one of the belts on the top pully... yea kind of scary... Should I just pick up a manual tensioner? Or does the 5th gen alread have the manual??
