could valves not seated correctly cause low compression?
Ok here is the story:
sprayed nitrous on my b16a, blew headgasket, over heated, froze rod bearing...new motor..any way
tore it all apart, and 2 intake valves on the #1 cylinder were bent, so when i built the b20 we replced the 2 bent valves with 2 new 99 civic si valves, my head is a 1st gen b16a(90 head), do u need to get a valve job to get these valves seated right?
my compression was 180-180-180-120, so i replaced the rings, had the head milled a bit, thinner head gasket, now the compression is 210-210-210-150, each cylinder went up 30 points...
my ? is - could the valves be not seated correctly causing it to loose compression in that ony cylinder?
my friend seems to think i have a fucked up sleve, but i highly doubt that, would a valve job on those 2 valves fix the compression?
TIA

If the cylinder that has the poor leakdown on it is also the same cylinder with the two 99 si valves in it, then i would definately say it is the valves. The new valves may not have the same valve seat diameter as the one on the valve seat. Also, you may have to much valve seat runout.

but i havent had a problem with the other valves, YET, knock on wood, i think i will just get those 2 and be happy for a while till i dorp a valve :-P
why? you have to spring for a head gasket, do all the work ETC. Thats worth something and isn't at all cheap. Do it all now or kick yourself in the *** later for not having done it before.
im no master mechanic, but i would recomend a leakdown test and then a valve job. i had low compression in my number 2 cylinder and it turned out to be a bad valve adjustment. all i needed was to adjust the lash.
with a feeler guage. You wand to adjsut intake to .007 and exhaust to .009. At least that is what I typically do. I think toda calls for .02 mm or .008 inch. There is a good write up on adjusting valve complete with DIY pics on C-speedracing.com If Valve lash is to tight on one cylinder it could keep the valve off it's seat ever so slightly and let all kinds of leakage by.
Take it to the Machine shop and get the seals and guides checked as well. When you bend any valves its a good idea to get the entire head checked out. Especially it being a 1st gen head (old) get it checked out, a good compression test will have to have not only the bottom end in good shape (rings seated right) but also a good head with good seals, guides, valves and so on.
Good luck
Good luck

yup, prolly shitty valve job, if ur in socal SD hit me up, the shop i work for does bad *** valve jobs... pristine
