how to tell if sugar is in your tank?
how would you tell if someone put sugar in your tank and if so how would I flush the whole fuel system so I could put a new engine in?
thanks,

the thing is that I bought a 1990 civic 4 door from a repo place and the engine is getting spark and everything seems to be working the only conclusion I could come up with is that the people that owned this before put something in the tank.
the car rrequires more than spark to run. Did you check timeing and most importantly GAS? Crack the hose open and see if gas sprays out. What does it smell like? If it smells like gas the car will run. If it smells like **** drain the tank pump some new gas through and re connect the line.
if you try to run the car with sugar in the gas tank, it will seriously f#$% the engine up like none other. a close friend of mine had a really tricked out mustang and a guy who didn't like him put sugar in his tank. driving down the highway, he hears a "POP!" and the engine died. totally blew out his engine. sadest day of his life. anyone who would do that **** is dumb as hell and should be beaten. but anyways, check to make sure that the gas line is good. how long has the car just been sitting?
If you wanna know what's in the tank, why don't you pull the fuel pump access cover and shine a light in there. Or you could dig around till you found something.
As far as flushing the lines, that's a little more complicated. I would say flush with water, but any water left in the lines will not sit right with the engine. You could try pulling the lines from the car and pouring gas down them to make sure they are clear.

or. unplug the lines and run like 30PSI (stock fuel pressure i believe) of air through them. just make sure you got the other ends capped off with a towel or something to prevent **** flying all over the place.
