Default D16a6 shortblock spinning to 8k?

In relation to my valvetrain spinning up to 7800-8000rpms, can the a6 bottom end take this abuse? what can I do to reinforce the bottom end?

arp rod bolts if you want a cheap way to help, but balancing, rods, and bolts would be ur best bet.

nice to see soemone planing a "d swap"

you should be fine, the D16a6 is commonly seen as the best D_Series bottom end of the bunch.

i personelly wouldnt go above 8k alltho i know of ppl on my own SOHC board that are spining that high or higher on there stock D bottom with no problems (thus far)

seems like 8500 is about the limit i have seen that ppl are willing to go on stock D_Series bottom. again, id keep it lower in the name of longevity but if you blow it up then u can buy another bottom for 50-100 bucks(god bless D motors)
hope this helps u at all.

i used to REV up my old stock d16a6 block to 8K all the time. at least 10 times a day, 7 days a week. raced it 3 times a week + major events. got the block at about 70K miles and put another 115 on the block before it spun a bearing.

Hey Wil, good info.
I am breaking down the block tommorrow and get it packaged up soon. I still am torn(as you know) between the best setup for that bottom end. I don't think I will be able to get into the 13's without slicks and a LSD. My car is gutted, but not in the all out sense of the word. I could shed around 150 lbs total, but I don't think that will put me where I would like to be. Guide me. This is my setup.

D16a6:
Exospeed stage 3 head pkg.
Race A6
REV valves
DC header
y8 intake mnaifold
b18a throttle body
Used Clutchmasters clutch
shaved flywheel
high flow cat
2.25 custom side exit exhaust(90deg mandrel bend straight out)
short ram intake
Zdyne SECU

ok Rob,
sounds like a good list of parts there. ya seems like the only thing missing is a matching Bottom end.
to really take advantage of the rest of teh setup, I think you'll need to get a good 11.5-12:1 bottom end setup.
A p29 piston equipped D16A6 will do the job. to complete what you have.
the only other thing I can recommend is getting some ARias pistons on the bottom end but it will onyl give it about 11:1 So it seems like the P29 will be better.

Would Arias pistons leave me more open to add a small shot(55-75) a year later?

my bottom end uses P29 pistons with with shaved head, yielding around 12:1 CR. I was cleared on using 75 shot down the road if choose to by the builder. the pistons top were coated by the ceramic coating and the skirts with PC9 coating at swain tech.

What was your additional cost for coating? How in-depth was the coating? How much was shaved off the head? Thanks!

coating was around 40 per piston.
what do you mean how in-depth was the coating?
it took around three weeks to complete with shipping and the build-up of the coating is insignificant to consider for tolerances.
check the site out for more info
http://swaintech.com/price.html
the head was shaved 0.1 which is a lot.

theres a local place that does all the coating for many of the Pro cars here in So cal and some of our customer's race pistons as well. we have it as an option for customers and only $120 for a set of 4

So I could get theoversized p29s coated to work better with nitrious?
Any better rings to compliment?
Whats the name of the company that does the piston coating? Great deal.
Sound like I am getting on the right track as to what I need. Thanks everyone for all the great info so far.
