Billowing white smoke
Hello all. I have recently performed major repairs and upon initial startup of the engine it is billowing white smoke from the exhaust. I replaced my timing belt, water pump, head gasket, intake manifold gasket, exhaust manifold gasket, and reworked the valves, seats and valve stem guides are new. All bolts are torqued to required specs. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Definitely a head gasket problem...
As posted above...
1) head/block checked for straightness?
2) was the head/block clear of all gasket material?
3) sealer/copper spray used?

did you happen to change the oil after you were done with the repair? If not, either water or coolant could still be in the oil supply ---> white smoke
check your oil, see if there's water in it

Wait a minute here... DOn't need to jump to conclusions here.

Does it still do it, or was it just at initial start up?

I had it running for about 10 minutes. The strangest thing is that the car hasn't even warmed up enough for the thermostat to open and circulate the coolant. The radiator level has not gone down. How long should I let it run before I conclude that there is a definate problem?
I did an engine swap this past weekend. On start up and most of my drive into work this morning (50km, first ride with the car) there was white smoke at idle when I was stopped at a light. Not white smoke like there's coolant in the engine, I know what that looks like, it's THICK white smoke. This was just white smoke.
When I got to work, I parked the car and went out and it wasn't smoking anymore at idle..
It could be moisture got in etc when you did the rebuild...?? I dunno.

It had not been overheated at all. When I did the valve job, I replaced the head gasket as a preventative measure.

No, when I was driving I couldn't tell there was smoke.
I remember following my buddy when his head gasket was blown.......The whole neighbourhood was in white smoke... LOL
It's hard for me to tell the smell, since I put on new exhaust, and fluids spilt all over throughout the swap, so it smells from all that.
