did a compression test today.......
I did a compression test today, the day was sweet so i was out working on the car... and the results... which I am still confused by... any input would be great.
I just got my car back from the shop, with CTR standard bore pistons, in a B18C5, and did a compression test to make sure the motor was running good.
Results and the Order from 1-4... 239, 240, 239, 240.
My question is, even tho the motor is good and dandy the fact that they are very consistant and close to each other, doesn't it seem low for CTR pistons? I believe CTR pistons bumps from the factory 10.6 to 12.1-12.3 approx.
From what I was told it was suppose to be close to 300 all around.
Correct me if im wrong or for asking such stupid questions, but any help would be great.
thanks

if your not happy with the results try dumping a teaspoon of oil into each spark plug well and see if that gives you the numbers you want. if so change you piston rings and youll be good to go. those readings were good though, practically anything above 200psi is really good. if the pressure doesnt jump after adding oil then you may want to look into replaceing your valve guides and possibly your retainers. make sure you do the test properly...all of the spark plugs out and the throttle wide open ( i use lock wire and wrap it around my butterfly and tie off at the intake)

Did you have to completely rebuild your motor?

those reading sound more accurate for JDM Type R pistons which yield 11.1:1 with a stock head gasket and 11.3:1 with a spoon or mugen 2 ply gasket.
sounds a tad low for 11.8 comp but your readings are very consistent, which is the most important.
glad to see you rebuilt your engine with the TODA belt this time, no more timing belt snaps
good luck with your dyno tuning homie
