Default Check engine light after JDM header:(

I installed a JDM 4-1 header with modified Carsound cat...Car was working fine until 3-4 hours later...The check engine light came on....The check engine light is causing VTEC not to work, the MPH gauge going up and down uncontrollably, and the lights faintly flickkering....Those were the three symptoms of the check engine light...This got me scared so I put back my stock header and cat....As I looked at my O2 sensors...they looked somewhat dark....They looked whitish before when i took off the stock headers to put in the JDM...I checked the code, which I am NOT good at...and it gives me two slow blinks...wait a couple seconds..then six slow blinks followed by six fast blinks...So it's a 20 and 6(6)...right??? I looked at the helms and it says for the 6(6)...second O2 sensor isn't good....20 has to do with the ELD light or something like that....Well, can anybody make sense of this madness??? Dammm, I am NEVER going to touch the R again!!!! By the way, I'm taking it to the dealer first thing in the morning tomorrow I hope they cover it under warranty, but I kinda doubt it since I caused it, right??? I will tell them the truth though..that I changed the stock header....I'll update you guys

hum... weird... i've had my DC JDM in for about a week, and never had any problems.. but this reminds me of the same problem i had in my civic when i drove w/o the cat in my "idiot" days... the cat was disconneted (hanging), so the exhaust was strait header. I drove w. the O2 sensor hanging also. when i got a ticket for being too loud... i put it back, and after driving ~500 miles (suprisingly)... i got the same symptoms...

The honda dealer took care of it tho... replaced the O2 sensors and reset all the error codes... so dont worry too much about it... i think you will be fine after they replace them... AND... if they dont ask, dont tell them that u changed the headers... hehehe

d1868055...So you got ALL of the three symptoms that I have??? I find it weird how the O2 sensors can affect the MPH gauge having a mind of its own and the lights faintly flickering...But hey, this R is OBD2...so I assume it's THAT sensitive...Damm OBD2

hell, mine was even worse... i dunno about the vtec kicking off, but all the rest of the symptoms were there... i say worse is because my civic was an automatic... i would start in 2nd gear, car will stall at stoplights, idle speed was like 100 rpm's... and when i PARKED it in the dealership... the speedo was racing at over 120 (or whatever the max speed is) mph, and the milage was racing upward too!! a really, really bad time for my civic...

I know how u feel man... its not a good feeling... whas worse is that it happend to a type R... but take it in asap...

check the code again... if its a code 17, you might have shorted out your fuse in which the O2 sensor is hooked to, along with the speedo sensor... (same fuse)

UPDATE: This morning, took it into Acura...told them about my CEL light...They said I have a bad alternator and a bad O2 sensor (don't know which sensor)...I can understand the alternator cause sometimes, my car hesitates starting up....But all this will be covered under warranty!!! Woo-hoo!!! I asked Acura what could of cause this and they don't know...They only replace parts...They don't take stuff apart and look at it Oh wells...at least it's being replaced under warranty...Hopefully, everything will turn out good...Guess what car they gave me as a loaner car??? And I had to ask for a loaner car..they didn't give it to me at first They gave me a NEW gold 2002 Acura TL!!! My God, this thing is pimpy!!! I'm in love with the TL...so luxurious and rides so smooth...The leather interior and seats are so comfortable...awesome car I may have to get one when I start a family...Man, I don't want to return the TL tomorrow cause that's when they say they'll have the R ready...I wanna keep it for a week The TL is an awesome car I'll keep updating you guys...thanks for the response guys...

UPDATE: Guys, take your R in to the dealer and tell them your problem...It should be covered under warranty, depending if you have a cool dealership like I do And don't forget to ask for a loaner car, hehehehe....I'm still waiting for Acura to give me a call so I can pick up the R...Hope it'll be fixed...Oh, and about my JDM header, I'm going to keep it...I may have to sell my R in the near future cause I just got laid off I'm thinking of getting a 92-95 Civic hatch and throw in a B18C5 motor...I will have the heart of the R I'll update you guys more when I get my R back today...

What was the culprit of the CEL codes?

UPDATE: Acura called me this afternoon saying that they installed new alternator and new O2 sensors...But the CEL is still on. They say might be electrical so they will need the car for one more day to check it out in-depth...They don't know what's causing it...hmmmm...we'll see what happens tomorrow
