poss. probs under the hood...
wasn't sure exactly where to post this.... but here's the deal. I have a '90 accord with 104k, and it has been taken well care of. lately though, despite the cold weather, it smells like it is running hot. Temp. gauge reads normal, and fluid levels are good, so i can't decide what it may be. I know this is vague, but if you have any ideas what it may be it would be a big help. TIA
what do u mean "it smells like it's running hot"
specify please. all engines are hot wheather it's cold or hot outside.
does the fan work. have u seen it or heard it? check colant too.

duh...
smells like a belt slipping maybe, burnt rubber. coolant levels are fine, nothing obvious i could figure out though. didn't say the car was running hot, just "smells" like it. for example, burnt rubber/oil, something along those lines.

I have a '90 Accord with 259K miles. Reliable vehicle.
If your temp guage is not showing hot, I would look at a couple of items.
1. if it only happens when its raining (you mentioned cold weather), you might just be smelling vapor from water that splashes on the belt or other hot parts
2. when was the last time you changed your serp belt? could be it's started to slip. if so you might also hear a screeching sound time to time. In my opinion this belt should have been changed during the 90K service (along with the timing belt), but it might not have. If you haven't changed it in 104K miles, you should change it regardless.
3. check your fluid levels. my first radiator crapped out at about 110K miles. if its starting to leak, you will smell water vapor and it will smell hot. have a shop do a pressure test.
