Default dyno'd my '91 si (EF) last saturday..... is something wrong with it?

Here's the long and short of it:

I had an '00 itr. Installed spec b's + toda valvetrain, vafc, toda cam gears, aem cai, and dyno'd open header (hytech). It made 189-190whp and 130-131ft-lb of tq after tuning on a local dynojet.
I eventually added an ats final drive and it didn't seem to make a difference in the whp output measured, but it did accelerate better.

I then totalled this car by spinning and hitting a pole on the driver's front. The motor seemed to be ok because it was still idling after the accident. 15.5k miles on the car at this point.

I pulled the entire setup out of the itr and put it into my 91 si. This includes all of the mods mentioned above, but minus the power steering. I used a stock itr tranny instead, and converted the car to obd2. I also used the stock itr intake elbow with an injen filter for 99-00 si... AND I added the hondata IM gasket - race install. I put crv steelies on it and just tool around in it from time to time.

I went to a completely different dynojet last saturday, and for ***** and giggles thought I would run just to make sure the motor was still healthy. 16k miles on the motor now.

It was a cold day, and I warmed up the car for about 5 minutes before getting my turn on the rollers.

1st run was 17x whp.

2nd run was 182 whp and 127 ft-lb tq.

WTF?!

I only took two runs.

Now I expected to be up to 195whp b/c I removed the power steering and added the hondata IM gasket in race formation. Maybe the injen filter for the '99 si was too small? Maybe the crv steelies were more rotational mass to accelerate? I also used stock itr flywheel whereas I used to have a toda one...

I know numbers don't mean much from dyno to dyno, but a stock s2k got on the rollers after me and put down 18x whp and then 197whp. Sounds about right after warming up, right?

Oh well, I'm confused. I will now have to go back to my old dyno with the aem cai and try to figure out what's wrong (if anything).

Ken, my guess is that your car was never really warmed up.

Just ask Shane. When I dynoed my car, testing out Kenji's ECU & other goodies, my dyno number kept creeping up with each run. It was 169, 170, 172. I only did 3 runs, so I don't think I truly know what the number might have been.

I had a 7whp loss in baselines on my motor, with absolutely no changes.

I guess its just one of those random variables you have to consider...and is exactly why I performed the second baseline when I did my exhaust install, because there is no way to determine whether the power will be the same one day compared to the next.

I contributed the loss to old spark plugs, no valve adjustment (after 60k) and stock air filter (getting old).

Yeah, I guess I'll go do all the usual things such as valve lash adjustment. Double check timing, switch back to the old intake (if I can manage to fit it in the EF), and then retune.....

the only way to fit a ITR intake into an EF body is to re-locate the battery.

i believe user "EF_LS vtec" did a different mod to get his ITR intake to work:

^ his how-to

good luck

I already relocated the battery to the rear..... The abs might be in the way though... I'll try to check it out tomorrow. AEM CAI for itr on an EF =

Thanks Young_R! Do I know you? You have a white s2k right? I think Cliff is joining the rwd honda club too..... You still have an itr?

Ken, that dyno was really messed up because some people i know got really mixed results. Cars that were dynoed at other places made varying HP on that particular dyno.

Damn, tough crowd! LOL

I have a hondata s200, but didn't put it on the car b/c I didn't want to change any of the variables.

I do remember that I'm still using the EF fuel pump, whereas the itr had the itr fuel pump..... Same oem fpr and rail though..... Is there even a difference betwen the itr and ef fuel pumps?
