Default Fitting a 3 inch ITR intake tube in my EF hatch**pics**

I've been wanting to upgrade to a bigger intake tube but I didnt like the idea and trouble of moving the battery to the trunk so this is what I did...btw, I'm getting my car dynoed next week to find out how much gains from my previous AEM Civic Si tube. The battery I used is a Hawker-Genesis, courtesy of xrcr6 (Alan).

Sorry for the quality of the pics...I just took em a few minutes ago in my garage (in the dark)

i am betting that is there so the intake tube doesn't get a hole rubbed in it by the battery. just a guess, though.

But if you look closely, the bottom tube is connected to the frame of the car right above the headlight, so its hooked up tiiite. I'm getting a matching AEM connector tube to replace that gettho blue one I bought from Vic Hubbard's. Here's some info on the battery too. http://www.hepi.com/genesis.htm
We welded some steel bars to work as a platform, bolted it to the frame and used the old battery ties to hold the new brace on top then a coat of paint to finish it off...Battery performs really well, at least in the 2 days that I've been using them. Powers the car, headlights at night and my 300 watt amp that runs my sound system. (6 speaker system w/ 12 inch sub). When it rains, instead of putting an air bypass valve, I will simply switch the bottom tube and turn it to a short ram intake. Cost for the battery ($70), Cost for battery mounts ($5), Labor ($0)

on the ingenuity!

That being said, I think that's a far from optimal positioning of the CAI. For one, there's no shielding between the filter + the engine bay air - kind of missing the point of having a CAI to position the filter directly behind the radiator + rad fan - and secondly, there's nothing there to protect the filter from water + rocks. IMHO AEM, and every other CAI manufacturer, puts the CAI filter in the resonator box area for a reason.

* Filter is not directly behind the radiator and rad fan
* Filter is right above the cross member radius rods (place racing) which works as a shield for rocks or whatever I run over... but for Water, it rarely rains in California unlike in BC and if you read through my post again, I have a plan of action when it rains. I also have 3 cars so I can use the other 2.
* If you have an EF, try fitting the 3 inch tube in the 2 1/2 inch hole that leads to the resonator box without moving your battery to the trunk
* The whole point of me using an ITR tube and somehow getting it to work is because the tube that AEM made for my car is too small for my set up.

Good response

I dunno, it seems a little risky to me, but then I'm used to random thundershowers on not putting the filter behind the radiator + fan... however, under motion the warm air passing through the rad is going to pass through the available exits, wherever they may be... in our case (yes, I drive an EF), that means out the bottom of the engine bay, where your filter is. Under motion it's a low-pressure zone so you're not going to be getting air from under the car where it is - you're going to be getting engine bay air. Sure it's further from the intake, but to me, it's just a longer SRI. An LRI? Plus the tube's right by the exhaust mani + rad tubes... kinda defeats the purpose IMO.

*shrugs* I'm just looking at it objectively. I'm curious to see how much of a difference it makes Can't wait to see dyno results!
