Found my way around emissions
I called Penndot today to get info. And they said i can qualify for Street Rod plates and title for my R. I explained the detial of whats done to it and they said i just need to fill out the forms and send them in . From what it sounds like there is no restriction on miles, but i need to really review the paperwork closely. It will still need to meet a yearly safety inspection which is not a concern to me , but will be exempt from emissions testing YAY!
I thouht about it before, but i figured they'd give me a hard time becuase it wasnt like a 60's-70's hot rod or something . But due to the amount of mods done she said it sounds like it qualifies. Theres like a 20 page application and they need pics of the car. The registration fees and all that seem to be the same also.
I hope this works. I would love to drive my car again and not worry about stupid bullshit like emissions crap.

Do explain....my buddy who works at GM dealership in service just hooked my car up to the computer they have at work for the new emissions testing and he said that it wouldn't even communicate with it. He said we will be alright for the fist year because as long as you dont drive the car more then 5k miles a year you are exempt from the emissions test. So i will be good this year but i am sure i will put more then five on it within the next year. So whats the deal with these street rod plates though?
well i checked into that exmeption due to miles too , but I was told by numerous shops that you need to pass the 1st year. and then if you are under 5k miles you can apply for exemption from there. I think there was a decent charge for that too .
As far as i can see for the Street rod stuff, the plate is $20 one time fee. same as vanity plates in PA so no biggie.
The registration is $36 a year, same as reg
and the title work to change it over i guess was like $30.
So all in all it looks to be similar to reg plates and title work.

So does this mean that you could potentially get away with having a daily driver thats by all means not going to pass emissions standards? That would be great.
From what i read soo far, it might be possible. I would never daily drive mine again, but for anyone else out there that might be able to get away with it , i figured id share the info . I know im not the only one fucked by this whole emissions crap.
Your not kidding mang!! I havent ever daily driven my car but when and if i ever decide to it could really present a problem if i am putting more then 5k miles a year. You know what sux is that had i lived 100 yrds down the road i would have been in Franklin County where there are no emissions testing yet. 100 yrds if that. It does really suck but i am sure there will be sufficient ways around it. Thanks for the info by the way. I will surely look into that!!
Just so I am not misreading, ITRs will pass emissions unless work has been done (i.e. Turbo, ect.) right?
I don't know about that hotrod plate thing though, sounds too good. Where is the downside? Insurance go up?

sounds interesting.. one thing i'd also check to be sure is what insurance will do/say?.. not sure if it'll make it difference but it sure as hell won't hurt to find out in case something unexpected comes up..

You dont have damn thing to worry about man!! This is a new PA emission standard testing that they are doing. Beware though, if they're not doing it where you live now they will be soon. To answer your question though, as long as your R isnt heavily moddified you should be fine. No insurance wont go up, at least i dont think it would, nor do i see any reason why it would.
Stock ITRS will pass. its a reg car.
Even with turbos they will pass if you have everything set up right.
My issue is, mines fully built, turboed, no cats, no resonators, 3inch ex, no evap stuff, no emissions stuff, not stock ecu , obd1 now amongst other stuff.
I dont think the insurance company knows how its titled really. So i dont think it will affect it at all. I could be wrong though. I wont say anything unless they ask me , put it that way

i looked into getting the collector vehicial plate for mine since its to new to be a street rod. but if you go the collector vehicial route they give you an R(reconstructed) on the title. read into the street rod part i know my buddy had to get a special vin tag for his street rod after he did that and i dont know if you'll also get a R on the title since a street rod usually has major changes done to it also.. i think im just gonna leave mine the way it is,its emmissions exempt since i put less than 5k a year on it
( it pays to have a few extra gauge clusters laying around

did you get it to pass the 1st time though? i dont put that much on mine anymore.
anyway , they said it doesnt get an R title, they put and S on the title for street rod.
They said the year the car is it will apply for the Street Rod status. Its 1948 and newer

not fully tuned, we just worked on the part throttles a little to make it driveable, i was gonna finish it last week , but with buying the new truck i am tapped for cash . So the R needs to wait a little till my funds recoop
