Your gonna need a spring compressor if you are the one doing the install. Also some engine lube stuff...forgot what it was called........

Also dont forget to adjust the valves.

Arent the valves in newer vtec engines controlled hydrolically, thereby eliminating the need to adjust valve lash? Can someone correct me if im wrong?

Youll need some extra cash saved up to fix your head in a few months. Several guys at PO have had head damage from the springs and retainers.

This has to be because of improper installation. I dont see how you could get damage from springs and retainers, unless like i said the installation went wrong and you started dropping valves

ive got 80k on my 97 and ive never had them adjusted, what could be the downside of not doing this except for the noise of clicking valves

The theory is that the springs are too stiff - they cause accelerated wear on the rocker arms.

The problem happened to very reputable sources. Im not saying that it will happen to every one, cause it wont. Im just saying that it has happened and its something I would want to know before buying them. The other thing that he needs to know is that he may not make the numbers he wants without higher compression.

You've got 80k miles on a Skunk2 valvetrain, or 80k miles without adjusting your valves?

If your valves get far enough out of whack, not only will power & fuel efficiency go down, but you can burn out your valve seals.
