Default Where to tune my bike

I have a 00 R6 and I put a slipon and kN air filter, now I get a back fire when slowing down or down shifting. Friend told me it is my air/fuel mixture. Where is a good shop to get it tuned and running right and what price am I looking to pay for this job. Im located in the 909 San Bernardino county area. Thanks for the info.

I dont know anywhere in socal but I heard the K&N filters arent all that great for the R6's. You should just run a stock filter. A lot people have some really hard time tuning them but some can tune them fine. Good luck

Your probably running pretty lean. I'd either put some jets in it, or take out the K&N and put stock back in. If it were me I would jet it.

if you live in the southern cali area, i work @ Mission Motorsports in Laguna Niguel right off the 5 freeway. we have a full service department and as the previous post says, you are going to run lean and because it is a 00 R-6 you are carburated and will need to get the carb rejetted. if you were Fuel injected the ecu would automatically take care of that but R-6 weren't FI until 03.

shop number is 949-582-0351
ps. the names Garret, give us a call we'll take care of you.

Until I get it tuned up, is it okay to still ride it or will I damage the bike.

a new filter isn't bad for anything, you just need to make sure the bike gets tune for it, unless it's fuel injected, it'll take care of the tuning itself.

Well, I found out it will cost about 300 bucks to tune my bike. A little too much to spend right now, so I will put the stock pipe on and leave it at that. The bike should run fine with the K&N filter and stock pipe. If not I will put the stock filter in too. I will probably leave the stock pipe in anyways because I am really getting tired of the noise from the pipe. Are there any companies out there that make a smaller pipe that replaces the stock pipe that acts as a stock pipe. I like the stock pipe, its just so big and bulky. I wouldnt mind having a pipe with the stock restrictions but small in diameter like a performance pipe.

I work at a shop in florida called Full Spectrum Racing, I have tuned plenty of R6s. Trust me, ditch the K&N. I also own an 01 R6, it has full race headwork and bottom end, graves ti pipe, factory ti pro jet kit, and a STOCK factory air filter. They just work! K&N does not, as many times as I have rejetted R6s to try to get a k&n to work, they don't work on Yamaha for some reason.

If I remove the K&N intake and put the stock one back in and keep the slipon, will my bike run a little better without a tune or should I remove the slipon also until I can get a tune.

Why is the K&N so hard to tune, according to the K&N website, they are suppose to work without any tuning.

either way you should rejet the bike. They come a little lean from the factory. Some people even rejet their stock bike

Thats fine, just make sure u get it done at a place with a dyno... if they're not measuring your air/fuel ratio for max power, they're wasting your time
