Urgent Suspension Problem.....any advice???
Hey,
About 2 months ago I bought koni yellow shocks and eibach coilover springs for my '92 Lude.
They were used, but the guy i got it from just had the Koni shocks revalved, which makes it like new again, so I hear.
Anyways, to save some money and to learn some merchanic stuff me and my buddy who has studied mechanics decided to install them ourselves.
Anyways, after i installed it the ride was better, but was very stiff and scrapped at the bottom over bumps etc cuz we dropped it too lowww....
So 2 weeks later we decided to raise it about an inch. Now the car does not scrape much, but the car's ride is still very tight and hard bounce when u go over bumps. Like car makes loud "bang" noise when i go over bumps especially on the lions gate bridge, and second narrows bridge, and then things such as sewer caps/lids etc.
I am riding on Yokahoma A 520 205/40/17 with Neeper Neptune rims.
I am thinking the problem might be that my tires are low pro, the ride is not as smooth, but...I have heard my friends who have low pro's as low as 40's have smoother rides, so is it something wrong with the suspension?
I don't know because before this car was lowered it used to be lowered before on just lowered springs, and i dont notice much of a difference now that I have better springs, and KONI YELLOW shocks which I hear great reviews about.
Can some ppl tell me what could be wrong, and what I should do?
I kind of can handle it, but my girlfriend hate's go'n in my car sometimes cuz it can be scary sometimes I guess when you go over deep grooves/holes in ground, or bumps on road...big loud noise sounds like car is break'n...haha...well i guess that aint funny....but anyways...let me know what you guys think...
Thanks!
What setting do you have them set at?
Is it specifically one shock that is making the noise or the whole side? Did you keep the bump stops? If you are hearing noises while driving from one specific shock when hitting small bumps in the road then the shock could be blown/busted. Usually cheap springs make a lot of noise when hitting holes/bumps in the road but eibach are nice springs. My other guess is that the springs could be shot.
And just for those that don't know what the neepers look like....

as far as the noise, hmm.
as far as the ride quality, adjust the settings on the konis to a softer setting. when he got them revalved, did he get them revalved for a higher spring rate? or did he just get them rebuilt to Original spec? you could be over-shocked for your current spring rates, which might make things uncomfy...

I'm not sure if we kept the bump stops on. As for the noise, its not really noise...its just when you go over harsh bumps or grooves on the road the cars feels like it is not absorbing the shock well, and its more from the front, i guess cuz the front is what hits the bump/groove 1st.
We did put the koni shocks setting at SOFTEST setting.
I'm not sure how he got koni to revalve the shocks, but i guess to spec.
He assured me that there is NO PROBLEMS with the shocks/springs.
Do you guys think maybe it could be that my tires are pretty low pro 205/40/17 that maybe its not absorbing the shock well? But then again my friends have low pro 40's or 45's and there ride is smoother over bumps/.grooves on road.
What you guys think, suggest ?
Thanks

wow those are some gay rims........
anyway, my guess is that your bushings are probably ****/shot........ or you installed them wrong........ yes it can be done......... check to make sure the suspension doesn't bind up anywhere along its travel

That's a pretty gay picture of you bro...as for the rims they get compliments everywhere I go, so I could care less what you think of 'em.
As for the real question/problem ... I will get that checked out....any other possibilities that could make the ride not smooth when going over crazy bumps on road?

Think about it... with heavy 17"s you'll probably see a LOT of that, because they are probalby RUBBING... I'd say get some smaller wheels on there and see if that fixes the problem. (Not trying to diss your style in wheels, just sugesting)

Are you hearing clicking when going over a bump or hole? Check to see if the nut ontop of the shock is completly tight. Koni's are the best hands down. If they were re-valved should be good as new.
ok i just did some road testing... yesterday..
When i go over bumps with my front right tire the car handles the bump okay...but when i go over the exact same bumps with my left front tire the car makes the bank, or bottom out noise.....well not bang...but you know ....like u can feel that the bump was not absorbed by shock or something....
Anybody know what could be the problem could be?
Me and my friends suggestions could be that:
- front left shock is blown/not working
- my friend said cuz the car hasnt been aligned yet since it was lowered maybe its not riding over bumps properly, and since i have low pro tires 205/40/17 it may be putting force on the edge of the tire or something when it goes over bumps since the car is not aligned yet....... Cuz i dont think non alignment would make such a impact on the drive over bumps and difference between the right and left tire.....the right one handling and absorbing shocks MUCH better!
- could be problem/damage to ball joint or bushings (what i heard from some others).
So what you guys think?

It could be damaged ball joint, bushing also it could be the upper control arm hitting the frame of the fenders. That's what i'm thinking. I have the same problem. But with steering left to right and up bumps..
