hey guys...i got a d16z6 in my 89 ef and nothing big on it but recently one day when i started up my car i heard a weird *** noise.. it sounded like my throwout bearing is out but when i poped the hood the sound wasnt from there it was from like the timing belt/alt area...what do you guys think it might be and what should i do to solve that problem? new timing belt/water pump? new oil? help me please..i dont want this motor to die on me ...

 

What kind of sound is it ? Like metal to metal or a whining squeaking noise.

 

Water pump.......better check it before it seizes on you.

 

either water pump or t-belt tensioner

it sounds kinda of like the sound when your throwout bearing is bout to go out like a grinding noise somthing like the belt is like hitting the plastic cam cover

 

Is there any coolant leaking out of the weep hole in the water pump ? Usually when your water pump starts to go bad, coolant starts flowing out of the weep hole. If you think it might be the alternator, you could always pull the belt off and start the car for a second. If the noise goes away its the alternator. Also you did look to see if the timing belt was rubbing right ?

the cover is still on the car (cam cover) but i dont see anything leakin from the outside...i dont think the alt would be makin a noise because when i was puttin my ear to it i didnt hear anything from the alt..i think it might be the water pump...when i got the swap i never changed the water pump or t-belt..(dumb of me) i hope thats the problem

 

ok i was told i needed a t-belt tensior too to replece is that something i need to??

 

u dont NEED it but its a good thing to get...called preventative maintenence...do it now while its apart!
