Sparks from Distributor
Hey all,
I've tried to search on this topic but couldn't find anything specifically.
I drive a '94 Integra GSR.
I drove my car to work this morning with no problems. It was time to go back home and my car wouldn't start. The engine would turn a few times and I'd stop. Upon trying again, eventually it would turn and start; however the engine would sound like *clump-clump... clump-clump-clump..." If I press the gas, nothing happens.
I had a friend check the engine bay as I started the car and there appeared to be sparks (little arcs) coming from the distributor cap (by the plug wires).
Could any of you help me with my problem? Thanks in advance.
Matt

Pull ur wires and pull the dist cap off and check the rotor... look at the contacts inside there and make sure theyre not all biffed up... Make sure the wires on your coil and moudle under neath there are all connected also... Try putting on a new cap and rotor...
Cap, rotor and wires are on my to-buy list.
I'm at work now to fix my car and my car is sitting in the middle of a snow fall (great...). Any other opinions on what might be wrong?
I did advance my timing 2 degrees (as many of you fellas have). Could that have contributed to the problem?

Upon further inspection, it looks like the sparks are coming out from the center of the distributor cap.
Some how, the metal piece that sits in the center of the cap (the one that springs in and out) managed to wear its way through the actual housing. It was exposed on the outside and that is what would spark every time the engine was turned.
The rotor and the plug wires seem to be in good condition.
Do you think this is the cause of the malfunction?
Thanks in advance.

Question: I purchased a used ditributor cap and rotor and the mechanic says that it's from a 2000 Integra (didn't say which model).
The cap is actually too small, and it doesn't fit onto my 94 GSR.
Are the 94 GSR caps different from 98+ GSRs? Or different between the LS?
Your help would be appreciated.
