Default Hello everyone! I'm a Diehard DSMer but I just bought a 94 GSR-> Need advice on mods!!!!!!!

Hey everyone! My name is Mike and I'm new to Hondas. I have a 2G Talon AWD w/ many mods but I just bought a 94 Integra GS-R (completely stock) and absolutely LOVE IT!!! It is a blast to drive, but I can't help feel that it's very slow. I know these motors have a lot of potential and I want to know the best way to uncork it! First off, here are the mods I'm considering, PLEASE ONLY REPLY IF YOU HAVE EXPERIENCE W/ THESE MODS!!!

Looking at around a $600-800 budget

***If anyone has any used parts in Wisconsin or Illinois for sale let me know!***

---->PLEASE HELP ME W/ THESE DESCISIONS!!!

1) What type of intake? Name brand or will the $60 EBAY intakes do the trick?

2) What brand/type of headers to get? Name Brand? Cheap EBAY's? 4-1 or 4-2-1 and what's the difference in the power band

3) Size of exhaust piping? 2 1/4" or 2 1/2"? (Getting it custom bent)

4) Does taking the cat out make a noticible difference on these cars or not?

What kind of gains can I expect w/ intake, headers, exhaust? 10-15 reasonable? Are there any mods that will offer large gains that I'm forgetting? Help! Please!

1994 Acura Integra Coupe GS-R 123,000 miles Completely Stock

THANKYOU Everyone for the space!!

If anyone lives in Wisconsin who has experience w/ these cars give me a call @ (920)-216-3522 please. I would love the help! THANKS!-MIKE

personally, i wouldn't skimp on anything... BUT.. if you must.

1. e.bay will work fine. you'll get more gains out of a DIY ice-box though.
2. do not go w/ an e.bay one. in this case, there's a lot of them, do some research.
3. 2.5", since you are getting it custom anyways...
4. if the pipe is straight through 2.5" and not the OEM's 2.25 (or whatever it is), then there will be a gain obviously since you'll be removing the bottleneck.

10-15whp is reasonable for those bolt-on's, which isn't bad for the budget you set.

Thankyou! I have been looking on this site for the info I need. All I can say is wow! A huge amount of information. This site has already been so helpful! Thanks everyone! I guess what I would like to know is :

1.) Are OBX headers any good $180 SHIPPED EBAY!

2.) Do the $60 ebay intakes work and how much power I am sacrificing vs. the major brands (AEM, GREDDY, etc.)

3.) Will 2.5" exhaust piping cost a lot of low end torque?

4.) ALSO -> HAS ANYONE EVER TRIED DROPZONE STRUTS? $180 SHIPPED for all 4! I have the Tokico Illuminas on my EAGLE TALON and Love them, but if I can get all 4 Struts for $180 Man what a deal!

5.) Does anyone have any used parts for sale?? Only Wisconsin and Illinois! No shipping!

I'm not trying to skimp and do everything half ***, but I just want to improve the car as much as possible for as cheap as possible. I really enjoy the GS-R and just want to make it better. If certain parts don't work just let me know. Thanks again guys!

THANKS AGAIN!-MIKE

You will be much happier going with Comptech upgrades. http://www.comptechusa.com They specialize in Hondas and Acuras.

Mike, welcome to the Honda side...........you'll like it much better over here j/k......ummm no I'm not. Isn't honda shifting action way better than the DSm shifter. Anyway, I would stay away from the dropzone suspension. Vain is right, you do get what you pay for (usually). My advice would be to do better mods at a slower pace then cheap mods quickly. Or you can DIY till you save up the money for the choice part(s). I've gone the cheap route and regretted it when I eventually upgraded the upgrade.........spending more money in the long run. First decide if you are going to go NA or FI, then get your mods according to that.......1. removing the resonator and dropping in a K&N air filter will help for for just $30....until you can get a good cold air intake
2. I would address the suspenison and wheels before anything else.......get a set of light weight 15x7" inch wheels with offset of 40 or more, with falken azenis tires sized 205/50/15 - this will run you anywhere from $600 to $1200 depending on the brand of rim but the tires shouldn't cost you more than $55 each at the most.
3. Next would be the suspension.....save up and invest in a koni shock with relatively affordable and very good Ground Control Coilover (sleeve) springs. This combo can run you anywhere from $800 to $1300 depending on how you source the parts. The Ground control coilovers being only $250 to $300. The Konis are more $$$ but worth it.
4. Search the HT board using the Search feature; this is an excellent site that will not disappoint you if you take the time to really search. You'll learn a lot quick from excellent people who know what they are talking about and have detailed their installs, and what works and what doesn't.............but you must search........there will be no way that you'll get all the answers there are by just starting a thread. Again welcome........and good luck to you

I didn't switch over! I still own the Talon, I can't part w/ it! I just picked up the GS-R. It's a 94 Integra and I love it. I'm sure you understand what I'm saying when these feel a little slow stock coming from a DSM. The Integra feels more tossable than the DSM. One thing that the DSM Has that I love is the power! 300+ hp to all 4 wheels= F-U-N! I've always wanted an Integra. There is definately rivalry between DSMers and Honda Boyz. I just love cars and I don't care what symbol is on the car as long as it's fun! -MIKE

You're right about the shifting action in the Integra vs. the DSM! I have the B&M shifter and the symborski stabilizer shift kit and the ACURA is way better shifting. It seems as though you think "shift" and the car reacts. In a DSM you can think shift all day and if you aren't patient and stern you can forget about it! -MIKE

good point; the diamond star motor is an excellent one.........I just don't like their shifter feel and vulnerable trannies, and high dash boards, but otherwise they are fast and cool cars.........but a lil rivalry never hurt anyone......now you can have the best of both worlds. Hope my advice from earlier helps, and wasn't too preachy about searching.

Trust me you weren't to preachy about searching. I feel lucky to have a Gs-R and a Tsi AWD. The Talon has the brute power and handles pretty good. The Integra shifts like butta, has a motor that will rev forever and a supension set up that makes the car fun. I can't wait to take the Integra to Road America this year! I'm hoping w/ some SS Brake Lines, Hi-temp brake fluid and Hawk HPS pads the integra has enough brake. I can't say again how much I appreciate this resource! THANKS!-MIKE

another dsm'er in the same boat as dsm mikey!!! im currently selling my 97 gsx, i just bought a 2000 gsr, and love it! more so cause its actually "reliable" compared to the dsm lol.

i will be peeping this thread often. im looking for some bolt ons to up the power. and it does seem a lil slow stock, coming from a turbo awd eclipse but hope to get it up and moving very soon.
