just had my first dyno session
Well, I finally had my first dyno session. Although I have quite a few basic bolt ons, I wasnt too sure what to expect with my totally untuned GSR. Went in and pulled a base run of 143.7 HP/ 116.7 lbs.....was kinda upset, but noticed that the car was running very rich.....after about 7 runs, adjusting the mix and the vtec cross over, we were able to pull a couple succesive 157.1/119.6 runs. (14hp gain and a nice improvement over the entire power band. not bad for an hours work.....
I made another appointment to get my cams next week (2001 ITR cams). What do you guys think a decent gain will be achieved with the cams? Would it also be a good idea to get a high flow cat while im at it?
any feedback greatly appreciated.

I used a vafc to tune .....I thought it was kinda low, but am hoping that with another tune session for the cams, and a new cat...I hope to gain more!

with the cams you will net somewhere in the high 160's. You really won't get much higher than that unless you up the compression in the engine in order to take full advantage of those cams.
Vtec point is set a lil high on there though. if its a gsr you only get 2,400rpms of vtec instead of 3,800rpms of vtec.
we usually try to tune the vtec point to a more usable rpm such 4800-5200rpm. Also if you ditch the Cold air intake in favor of a short ram intake you'll net a lil better torque and p numbers as the car has less tubing to pull the air into the engine. If you have the itr throttle body, taper bore it from 70mm to 64mm at the plenum. Usa a liquid gasket between the throttle body and the intake manifold to eliminate any obstruction to air flow. Try to get a hold of a venturri plate intake manifold gasket and you'll be able to lower your vtec engagement and get more midrange torque and hp. This is because of the velocity stack effect both the throttle body taper bore and the venturri plate will add, the air is shot into the manifold at a much higher velocity.
Granted I am in Colorado at 5280 feet and the same principals of tuning up here do not apply to every other place in the world, so your results may vary.
The venturri plates gaskets aren't cheap but are worth it.

a bit more info.....
The Type R cams were in, but not tuned (next week). We found that my obd 1 ecu was running really rich. The VAFC couldnt seem to lean it out at all. The best we could do with it in was 152. We switched back to the obd II and after a bit of tuning got the 157.1. I was kinda dissapointed with that. I had always thought the OBD I was the way to go. (Any thoughts).....The second last run, the VTEC crossover was dropped to 5000 and that seemed to work well. (I thought with the skunk2 mani, I should have it higher, but it didnt appear to be the case).....we also had issues getting a good gas mix around vtec crossover.
I do hope with the hi flow Cat, the Cams being tuned, and the A/f mix updated, I do hope to get some good numbers......

how much does it cost to do a dyno? i need a place to go and get some tuning done? do they have people there to help with the tuning or is that something that you have to do all yourself?
i think i saw somewhere that you are from Ontario right?
