Default Standard Cab Stereo Install??

Alright I have a 2003 Toyota Tacoma Standard Cab little pick up truck. I have been thinking about installing a stereo in it. The problem is as Im sure most of you already know is the very limited space behind the seat. Its a bench seat and Im thinking that I could build a box for 3 or 4 8" subs maybe. I was thinking that I could use some of the space under the seat and build my box so that part of it fits under the seat so that each sub will have enough air space in the box and then it angles and comes up behind the seat. What do yall think or do any of you have links to any sites that I could check out how they installed a stereo in this same kind of truck.

i know that jl audio makes a sub box for the back, behind the seat. also try a company called q logic. they make pre fab boxes for lots of cars/trucks. jlaudio.com or qlogic.com. the jl audio one sounds really good. its only one 8" sub back there thoungh. if you don't want to break windows and just have some good sound, that one does really well.

I would recommend that you steer away from the 8's and just do one quality 10 " sub. There are alot of good choices out there that require minimal air space and sound great. One good choice would be a kicker L5 or L7 solobaric. They dont require much airspace and since you would only be using one sub, that would allow you to run a single channel mono amp which are usually very small in size and are extremely efficient usually down to 2 ohms. i can gaurantee you that if you had a single solobaric 10" and say about a 300 watt mono amp with a decent head unit it would rock your world. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

I'm with Mires on the single 10" thing.

Don't know about the l5 or l7's though...No experience with them.
I did have a single Cerwin Vega Vega 10, in a ported enclosure, in my old standard cab Mazda( similar amount of space behind the seat ), and it sounded great for a low powered system. This was in a ported enclosure.

The thing is I like for my stereos to be LOUD!!! I have always had really loud but really good sounding stereos. I have a Lanzar Opti Drive 50C for anyone who has been around stereos for awhile and that is what I always power my subs with (i have had it since it was brand new when they first came out). My last stereo I had 2 12" Memphis Audio HP12's they were dual 2 ohm voice coil and I had them running mono off my 50C. It was a 1/2 ohm load mono and it was mean!!! But this is a little different I have a truck with no space to work with now. I was thining of like a few 8" subs behind the seat but I just dont know if that is possible? Im not sure what to do yet

well, you could always invest in a bed cover, and do a cut out in the cab and bed...a blow hole if you will.

could also do a dual voicecoil subwoofer with dual 2 ohm coils, and get a 1 ohm load. I just prefer a single 10 or possibly 12 to most 8 inch subs. 8's could do a lot in the limited space, but I would probably recomend a ported enclosure for the best results and most output. I have had good results with the ported enclosures I had built for my trucks, and I usually just run a single 10, but the output has been impressive considering I run it on an old MTX thunder 280.

The older Lanzar stuff was pretty nice, at least the opti-c stuff.

Yeah there is gonna be no cutting on my truck or taking up bed space cause that is what I haul my quad around in. Im deffinetly gonna be running a dual 2 ohm sub so I can get some power out of my amp haha
