Default Pulling out my motor.

How hard do you think it would be to get the motor out...2 people doing the work, got one guy that could probably be there that knows exactly how to do it...because he works at good year, but he is too lazy to do it all for free. So...with his help, a helms, and a friend. how hard do you think it would be to get the motor out, and how long would it take. Is disconnecting the wiring harness, taking the axles out, etc a bitch? thanks.

Took me about a week the first time, well actually took me about 3 days to pull out and about 2 days to go in when I did the B18B -> B20B swap, not to mention the days of troubleshooting. However the second time around I knew what I had to do, and I knew what tools I would need, plus things were much easier to loosen up the second time around, only took me about 4 days the second time, with only having help on the first 2 days.

Tips:

1. You have to pull the tranny and and engine out together. I'm not gonna lie, you can just pull out the engine, I did the first time. But its such a pain in the ***, that I eventually pulled out the tranny too and voila is was like 10x easier going in and out as one.

2. You will need an engine hoist, and at least two floor jacks that can go up to at least 18"

3. One of those Moroso Crank Pulley wrenches will help tons...about $80 from Summit Racing.

4. Good assortment of wrenches and sockets, have multiples, because you will misplace a couple. 10mm, 12mm, 14mm, and 17mm are the important ones, have at least 2 sockets and wrenches for each of these sizes, in different varieties (IE shapes, sizes...like 3/8", 1/2").

5. Get some threadlocker, that red crap that you squirt on bolts. Get two of the little 1oz or whatever they are if thats all you can find (Pepboys and stuff). After my first swap, I lost all kinds of bolts and nuts, the second time around haven't really heard any "jettison" while on the highway.

6. Get a torque wrench if your working on anything that recipricates. Stuff that just sits there ain't too bad....tight and some threadlock will work, but anything like flywheels, hubs, brakes, wheels, you want that stuff set right...and put threadlocker on there!

7. Do not force anything! If the bolt doesn't go in with anything less "mild force" then take it and make sure the threads are clean, both on the female and male ends, and throw some lubricant on there. Trust me a galled thread is the worst thing!

8. Make sure the axles pop back into the tranny, it will scare you good if they pop while your driving afterwards .

9. Drain the engine and tranny before hand, but be carefull because you will laying down there alot!

10. Try to get the shifter actuator off of the tranny. The one on the side is easy, just a bolt, but the one in the middle has a pin, that you will need to use a bolt or tap or something to pop out. If you can't (but I highly recommend you do) get that pin out, disconnect the actuator from the shift **** and you can swing it out and under the passanger side wheel as you lift the engine out, but its tricky. And if you put much weight on that actuator it will bend.

11. Get a Helms, the drawnings are far easier to interpret than the real pictures in Haynes and Chiltons. Also study that engine bay before you attack it, understand where stuff comes from and where it goes, even labels on the hoses and wires will help.

12. Make sure you disconnect the harness from everything before you yank the motor out.

take out the battery, disconnect all the connecters at the engine not at the firewall ect... disconnect all the hoses, grounds ect ect. drain all the neccissary fluids. you might want to pull out the radiator and exhaust manifold if you can, gives your some space...remove the shift linkage

now for the axle, support the car on jackstands, make sure its safe. then get a 32 i think, a breaker bar...and a long rod, the one that u use on your jack....u need to bend that lil thing on the axle nut....then take that off...try to remove the axles...*u might have loosen or remove other things* pull the axles and the half shaft...half shaft has a bracket bolted to the back of the engine..you can take it off...

now once the engine is sitting there by it self...all you have left is the mounts. you can either lower the car all the way to the ground then remove them...lift the car back up..and slide the engine out...or if you have an engine lift use that...

some things i say maybe different...im sure some one on honda-tech will correct me....

if you use a helms than there should be a write up inside about how to do it. Well at least my Acura shop manuel did (thanks nick). Honestly it should only take you a couple of hours if you go hardcore at it. The worst part for me was the rear motor mount. (use air tools if you got'em)

A good tip that helped me a lot was to get a bunch of sandwich bags and label every bolt you took out and stick them all together.

Also just come on here and ask if your stuck. there are people on this board that have been there and done it and are willing to help

Good luck

the hardest part for me (2 people) was actually clearing everything, just make sure you pull EVERY hose off.. I broke my PS fluid resivoir while removing the motor, just take your time, and maybe, if possible, remove it from the bottom, (gotta remove the crossmember)

I thought it was pretty staright forward when i did mine... Its really not as hard as you think.... basically you seperate/disconnect everything from the motor to the car and just leave engine mounts till last and it comes right out(I said basically)

before i did mine i looked at pics with descriptions just to prep myself and know where to start....
